Come on man.
I'm not saying that isn't possible. But to just say that like it's fact is not quite realistic.
Sure the possibility is there for a larger pay day, but what if it isn't there? What if his wrist snaps again? Has a sophomore slump?
If the blues go to him with a good respectable offer for a good length such as say 80/8 that's 80 freaking million dollars. Would you say no and take your chances that a team might throw an insane offer at you and that some 4th line goon doesn't elbow smash your face into the glass and you miss 40 games from a concussion?
Way too many variables out of their control when the one variable they can control, guaranteed money and a lot of it, is right there.
Ducks match the offer sheet. Carlsson stays.

Agree. Plus Kyrou will be on a very team friendly contract if he gets back to his 30 goal norm. MacDavid is going north of $20M.

Yes. Let’s get back to Snuggerud. Earlier in this thread I agreed with Pierre that Snuggerud could get 12 million per. You said you’d be thrilled if he got 10 per. That’s splitting hairs. He’s the highest paid Blue either way. Guys are just flat out getting paid more this offseason than last offseason. Doesn’t matter if they’re UFA or RFA. Sorry but I don’t think this is a very controversial statement.skilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 20:37 pmlol the difference between during covid and a month ago and the difference between UFA and RFA is splitting hairs? The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 19:44 pmYou guys are splitting hairs here. Obviously we differ greatly on our opinions of "splitting hairs" I don't think not comparing RFA and UFA or not comparing the covid era to a month ago or the difference between 10 and 12 million is splitting hairs at all.

Covid held the cap down for years while the players paid off their escrow debt. That debt was just paid off in 2024 and that’s part of the reason the cap is exploding now. That’s why I brought it up. But I do sincerely apologize for misreading your post.skilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 22:34 pmThat is not at all what I said. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 22:15 pmYes. Sorry but the things you are saying just are not true, the cap was not at all "flat" in Oct of 2025. The cap went up 7.5 million in 2025 and was already announced to go up another 8.5 this year.
Cooley was signed with the current cap in place.
Tuch was also signed with the current cap in place and was a UFA.
Its funny Ive been arguing with everyone that these contract were not to high based on the cap for years now all the sudden one crazy offer sheet and now everyone has gone a complete 360 and wants to start overpaying everyone and now the same people think the ducks were dumb not to offer a 21 year old 15 million.
I don't think there is a team in the league that would have offered him 15 million in that situation and A team giving him a plum stupid offer sheet doesn't change that IMO.
I don't think Philly themselves would have offered him 15 million had they already owned his rights. Can't wildly over pay everyone just because on the extremely rare occasion a crazy offer sheet happens.

Yes I misremembered the 2025 cap. The players paid off their escrow from Covid in 2024 and 2025 is the first year the cap started going up again.skilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 23:17 pm Sorry but the things you are saying just are not true, the cap was not at all "flat" in Oct of 2025. Tuch is UFA, but he didn’t actually go to market so I think it’s relevant. Clearly you don’t but that doesn’t mean that I’m lying or something. After Dorofeyev got 11 and Byram got 12.5 it’s not that far afield for a potential franchise center to ask for 15. And clearly Verbeek thinks it’s a good bet he’s gonna be worth it since he matched.

Snuggerud ain't getting fifteen million. That was a reach of a take based on one offer sheet.

I believe Ive explained that in the several post above.

Re: Ducks match the offer sheet. Carlsson stays.
Ok then. This is my last post on this topic. I feel that I’ve addressed every point you made in this exchange except Logan Cooley. You haven’t addressed anything above so I’m just going to move on now. Have a nice evening.skilles wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 00:23 amThe Average Gatsby wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 00:20 amSuch as?skilles wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 00:17 amOh I don't think you are lying, I just think you are misunderstanding a lot of details. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 23:49 pmYes I misremembered the 2025 cap. The players paid off their escrow from Covid in 2024 and 2025 is the first year the cap started going up again.skilles wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 23:17 pm Sorry but the things you are saying just are not true, the cap was not at all "flat" in Oct of 2025.

Team mates more often than not do not think in unison. It doesn't take much headcount to disrupt a locker room. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 19:25 pmYou’re wrong. He was offered a great contract and signed it. I’d bet most of his teammates are happy for him. If anyone screwed this situation up it was Verbeek. He played hardball with Drysdale and McTavish when their ELC’s were up and got away with it. This time it bit him in the (donkey).

Scott Gomez was on spitting chiclets years ago talking about that period where he was the highest paid player in the league. Biz asked him if anyone gave him a hard time about it or resented him for it. He said guys were generally supportive of him because they understand that when someone resets the pay scale it tends to help everyone. I’ve never heard or read anything about a players salary being disruptive or causing issues so I tend to go with what Gomez said. Your mileage may vary of course.dhsux wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 07:26 amTeam mates more often than not do not think in unison. I get that but not to the tune of all players. You may be right about "most".
Also, the Ducks as a team are likely due to go backwards these coming years due to cap issues. Underlying resentment is more than likely.
I just don't see this event as a positive for the Anaheim Ducks.
