I'm not saying that isn't possible. But to just say that like it's fact is not quite realistic.
Sure the possibility is there for a larger pay day, but what if it isn't there? What if his wrist snaps again? Has a sophomore slump?
If the blues go to him with a good respectable offer for a good length such as say 80/8 that's 80 freaking million dollars. Would you say no and take your chances that a team might throw an insane offer at you and that some 4th line goon doesn't elbow smash your face into the glass and you miss 40 games from a concussion?

Ducks match the offer sheet. Carlsson stays.

When did Cooley sign, and what was the going rate for a 30 goal winger at that time - because its quite likely that's what Snuggerud will be. All other things equal, a 10M price last year is easily 12M next year, at this rate.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 16:36 pmCooley signed for $10m and is a much better player. He just signed at the end of last October. This upcoming season will be the 1st of his 8 year deal. So, not that long ago. I guess we’ll have to wait on Snuggs, but I don’t see a $12m deal, that’s for sure.Army's Mom wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 17:10 pmWhen did Cooley sign, and what was the going rate for a 30 goal winger at that time - because its quite likely that's what Snuggerud will be. Cap was flat last October. Cooley is also better than Tuch and he just signed for 10.5. I’d rather have Snuggerud than Byram and he just signed for 12.5. Snuggy is gonna get paid if produces like a top line winger.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2026 17:24 pmHe just signed at the end of last October. Predicting these big stat and dollar numbers flat out for the kid should be done if we see he's on the way to such numbers.
If one year of 60 points gets you 12-15M for a basic rookie Katy bar the door.
Unfortunately I do believe it's going to take a number of years for the teams in this league to learn how to negotiate with the rising cap.
More Philly nonsense from others and it's going to get all screwed up for sure.

Leo with a pisssss poor job making amends:
"It was an offer that 99% of people would sign too. It's a pretty simple answer. I really wanted to be here though. I really wanted them to match. I want to be an Anaheim Duck."

There’s nothing to make amends for. He was offered a great contract and signed it. I’d bet most of his teammates are happy for him. If anyone screwed this situation up it was Verbeek. He played hardball with Drysdale and McTavish when their ELC’s were up and got away with it. This time it bit him in the (donkey).
