Last I saw the Ducks are also asking for a prospect to be included with that 1st.
They want #11 and a prospect for a player their coach doesn't want?

Verbeek is way overplaying his hand.

If both of those guys go top 10, that means Smits and/or Verhoeff drop to 11.
im def not trading either of them straight up for mctavish. foh army. not today. dont you do it

You caught me red-handed - I'm obviously trying to get Armstrong to blow a first round pick by posting my opinion on a board that he doesn't read.

I’m fine with one of 15 or 16. Please no to 11. Sigh. Statistically it might be a small difference but take your best shot in the draft please. We don’t even know who is going to be available there yet.

Edit: for instance if it’s 15/16 then the rationale is basically Faulk or Kyrou for McTavish (and McMichael in the case of the Kyrou deal). I can live with that.
I would agree with that, if we are going to consider the 11th for A guy like Mctavish we should wait and see who is still on the board at 11 first.

We could tease the Ducks with 11 or 15 telling them "maybe, depending on who is available at 11 and 15" to keep Mctavish on the hook then no matter what happens be like "no sorry our guys are available at 11 and 15 but we can do 16.

no no no no no no no no no no tired of this propaganda

- they need to spend better ie not to the cap when very mediocre
- draft better ie not mid pack for 20 consecutive years
- and be honest with the fanbase about the real plan bc fans will support young, exciting, affordable players

operating out of fear “we must do it now now now” is it what [censored] every plan up. patience and agility wins the war

Re-ranking the 2021 NHL Draft class five years later

David St-Louis
Lead Scout

This is not a re-draft. It’s a re-ranking.

We’re not picking the players that teams should have selected based on their needs in 2021, considering how their careers are going.

Instead, we’re re-ranking players based on the value they provide, with a heavy emphasis on analytics. To order them, we considered production, the number of seasons they spent in the league, Stanley Cups, remaining development runway, and players' market value. The eye test also plays a large role. Players providing more game-breaking skills and three-zone impact rose higher.

We’re also showing our own draft ranking back then, and reflecting on the lessons we learned while watching these players develop.

- clip -

Mason McTavish

New Ranking: 18
Original Ranking: 5

One of the biggest fallers in this re-ranking, Mason McTavish hasn’t lived up to his draft selection. Five years after his draft, he remains more of a project and the Ducks are still awaiting his breakout.

McTavish lacks a clear identity. A playmaker, he can land slot passes and find teammates across the ice, but he’s not the kind of player who controls the ice with deception. He can score goals, but not at a Cutter Gauthier rate. He can play a physical game, but lacks the competitive fire needed to become a high-end checking force. And while he’s technically a second-line centre, his defensive play leaves a lot to be desired. Poor in-zone awareness and puck management are tanking his expected goals against metrics.

In hindsight, our projection and ranking of McTavish look off, like for many other OHLers in 2021.

We saw him as a cerebral centre, making the right plays at the right time and dominating opponents in tight spaces. While his wall game did translate to the NHL, he isn’t becoming a two-way, play-driver, but more of a player who finds his opportunities in chaos. We also aren’t seeing his shooting skills as much as we anticipated.

To earn his reputation as a top-six centre, McTavish will first have to solidify his defensive game and become a more reliable, consistent player.

McTavish will be in Monty’s doghouse often and he’s likely to become the forum whipping boy by the end of October.

army is so old school he might be checking these boards for fan sentiment so you never know :D

btw i’ve defended the hawks troubled rebuild against the anti-tanking crowd telling them just wait and see (like the sabres) then they overpay for byram I just don’t get it. at least see who is available at 4. i obviously hate the hawks and im sure they’ll be better in the immediate but possibly passing up on stenberg or even bjork who give conn smythr vibes is fascinating

I get it - they didn't want to wait three years for a defenseman to get his stuff together so they entered into a bidding war with San Jose and won (or lost depending on your perspective). I don't like it but they're better today.

If the Blues did offer 11, I’d imagine it’s contingent on a player they like not falling, such that the trade would be announced right after the #10 pick is selected. That would be the smart thing to do, at least. Imagine Bjorck falling and Anaheim selects him with the #11 pick…oof.

As soon as the hawks get back into the playoffs and become competetive they will be on a lot more of these trade lists or UFA lists. Making that trade could have mind blowing positive effects before its done but people won't put things together in that much detail.

Almost every good player having a NTC and an expanding league changes how you should do business.

I'm not saying I like the trade for them because I don't but there are scenerios that could play out that make me very wrong to not like it. Becoming a desirable destination again could be a very big deal.

Hawks are definitely better after that trade. Sharks offered 9 and 27 for him.

I'm not sure why some folks like to predict the future as if it's already fact.
