I don’t see anyone “worried” here, so you’re talking to yourself.
No I'm talking to those (bleep) about something that is miniscule when looking at players with those numbers offensively.

You're included.
So you ignore defense in a players value because he hits well. Neat

If they have a top 20 OPS I sure do and I guarantee you anyone else should too.

I think sign him through 2031 and then let him walk at 32 years old. He's only gotten better each of the previous few seasons. The guy can just plain hit and I think you want/need him to be in the lineup when the window opens.

5/100?
I also believe he improved at first base also. I like watching him bat because he hits so many pitches that aren't strikes. The home run yesterday was a pitch out of the strike zone.

I agree on 4 or 5 years on a contract.
I love Burleson and his bat. His defense stinks. Well below average.
Tell me you haven’t played baseball wo saying it!

Burly is a solid defensive 1st baseman.

You guys should have listened to Shady about Burly/Baez!
Literally every single defensive metric available says he’s a below-average defender. Just saying he’s good because he makes plays a 1B is supposed to make doesn’t change that. Maybe you should watch some other teams and you’d see he’s not as good as most 1B defensively.
This is likely true but he doesn't cost you games so can we just forget about the defense. He is the most consistent offensive threat for the last three years in a team that has struggled to find that. Also he has definitely made some good scoops and plays at first and we can't pretend that didn't happen just because of the metrics.
Uh no, I don’t just forget about defense just because someone is a good hitter. His limited range and slow reaction on balls hit near him might have cost runs that you’re choosing to ignore, but that is your prerogative. No one is ignoring his scoops, but most ML 1B make those plays.

None of that would scare me from extending him though, good player, just need to be honest about who he is.
My point is he is not like having Nick Castellonas in the outfield because he has a good bat. There are a lot worse butchers at positions that play because the bat plays. He is nowhere near that level where you hesitate. So we are on the same page.

I am well on CT record saying Burly is the best pure hitter on the team. His hand/eye coordination is beyond most players, and he can hit the ball where thrown. He has high average, RBIs, slugging and OBP is all at the top of MLB. His D is improving with every game and will continue. Lock him up!

He's become the best hitter on the team and his stock is still on the upswing.

I'd have no issue seeing him get a $90-100M/5 yr deal w/a sixth year mutual option.

This right here, Louie. We both agree so it must be.

3 year, 60 mil. Buying out last two years, of course.

If he doesn't take it, listen to offers this winter.

Not me. Burly has got yo be the starter. Period. Dont screw him up by platooning him. The more LH he sees, the more chance of improving. Plus if a LH starts, good chance he'll only see him twice.
Theres a reason why Oli gets criticized for platooning hot bats. Its because its stupid to do it!

Ozziesfan41 wrote: 17 Aug 2026 14:00 pmI wouldn’t trade either of them. The reason burly and walker have so many RBIs is because JJ and Herrera are running up counts and getting on base. I wouldn’t mess with the 1-5 now that Baez is here. The 1-4 has been the strength of the team and driving the offense all season. As for burly yea sign him his defense isn’t great but he’s far from a disaster and the bat more than plays
Yea, I may be getting ahead of myself there, and I really like Herrera, but I’m thinking that Rainiel Rodriguez is going to be in the majors next year, and it’s going to be a lot sooner than Baez was this year. It seems like between Herrera, Burleson, Crooks, Bernal, and RR, we are going to be pretty crowded at catcher, 1B, and DH, and all those guys need as many ABs as they can get. I think that the team should at least be exploring the idea this offseason. Especially if he continues to hitting like he has this year, rather than he did last year.
That’s fair. I personally would keep him because I think he is going to break out offensively once he figures out the proper place between being aggressive early and doing damage and being patient and getting getting on base at a high percentage and because the 1-4 has carried the team pretty much alone this season and if they can get a decent 5-9 then the offense will be great. But you make good points and if they knock them over with an offer then sure trade him and maybe move burly to DH and look for a first baseman

Extend Burley if feasible to do so.
He’ll continue to improve defensively at 1st.
He’s certainly not a liability as it stands.
He’s proving he can hit lefties as he gets more abs.

I didn’t say ‘move’. I said ‘listen.’

And let’s pump the brakes a little. Is AB our best hitter or hottest hitter?

Ops in July: .751.
Ops on July 30: .801

Ops in August: around 1.250 with a .350 BA.

AB is white hot right now. I just don’t think any good player is a hot month away from getting a $100mil extension.

Would like to see how the rest of the year plays out, and maybe even the beginning of next year.

Look up anyone of his defense rankings. He’s First in errors. And he’s in the bottom 3 in other catagories. I don’t know how you can fool yourself by thinking he’s a good at first base. He has no range.

6) Baez
7) Baez
8) Pete ?
9) Winn

Should be beautiful with a major focus on perfecting the pitching staff being our biggest objective and hurdle.
And then Condom for centerfield
Would he be good at PREVENTING runs?
