He’s absolutely horrific in the playoffs.
Why I wasn't mad to see him canned, overrated by many.

But looked good compared to Matheny and Oli.
Agree on Oli. Matheny won a pennant. I can only wish for a manager that bad today.
Matheny was nothing more than a passenger, inheriting a loaded team.....he was a horrible manager.
At least he got the best out of the players he had unlike Oli squashing all Motivation in T.O. And losing the club house.

Come on. The Cubs are just a better team and they were playing at home all three games.
What got him fired in St Louis reportedly was going on a local sports talk radio show and saying he did as well as could be expected given the lack of talent on the team. That's still the excuse?

San Diego's payroll is higher than the Cubs.
Blaming the manager when his team's biggest hitters flunked out is evidence of an anti-Shildt bias. The Padres won 1 of 3 on the road against a favored team. About what would be expected.
about what I expected too - although I was hoping the Scrubs would sweep 'em
Based upon Shildt's history in the post season I expected them to get swept. He exceeded expectations.

Gross. I've never once hoped for the slightest bit of success for the Cubs, regardless of opponent.

I find it funny Scotch understands the concept of inheriting a solid roster except when it comes to Matheny.
Well played and true.

I don't see much difference in the last 3 managers. Matheny probably did less with more. Oli wasted 15 war between Arenado and Goldy with a hot Pujols in the second half of 22. There's 2 common denominators. Mo hired them and no experience. Oh 3. They're all mediocre at best.

The Padres lost the series primarily due to their first 3 batters in the lineup not coming thru. Tatis was 1 for 12, Arraez 2 for 11, Machado 1 for 10. All of their hits came in game 2, which the Padres won.

Tatis who struck out struck out 129 times batted leadoff in all 3 games. In game 3 he was 0-4 with 3 strikeouts. Head scratcher.

I don't give Matheny any credit for that, the stars were grizzled veterans.

But agree on Oli, he's a nothing.

Why do idiots hold the manager 100% responsible and not the players. Teams have bad games in critical situations. Not managers fault.

And we all know payroll is the only measuring stick. Not a smart take

Cards Talk believes players win and managers lose. It's the mantra here.

Never blame the players, blame Oli. It's simple minded thinking.

It’s simple minded to believe managers decisions have no impact on wins and losses. Look at what happened in may in may the oli fans were saying look at what a great job oli is doing he’s going to manager of the year everyone should apologize to oli then the cardinals suck again and they say it’s not his fault it’s the players lol
