There is absolutely no way to compare St. Louis and the quality of life to LA, even with the stuff you mention. Come on man. I'm not in my 20's or 30's anymore but, when I was, LA and Denver were top of the list for places to live. Were I a pro baseball player, the former would be the place I'd have wanted to be.woofy25 wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 14:12 pmThe city is facing lower than projected tax revenue, huge legal liabilities, huge budget shortfalls. Can someone tell me why the cardinals are not the dodgers?

I get your point and I don’t expect nor think it wise for St Louis to spend like they do. But they are taking advantage of their market size. Many teams do not do that. Prime example Cardinals. Not LA but they can afford to spend more. I would also suggest from top to bottom LA is a much better run organization than the Cardinals have been. Better players, better coaches, better player development, etc.WeeVikes wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 12:23 pmTo play Devil’s advocate, they can spend for the stars due to the revenue from a much larger market, and can market them to said huge market, one much larger than StL. That’s reality, and one the Cardinals need to be smart to overcome.Jatalk wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 12:16 pmThey have the brains in LA to spend for the stars and then market them. I will also say they are better marketers than this organization regardless of their market size.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 07:44 am Because the Dodgers have a lot more money to spend on everything that makes them better:
1) MLB salaries
2) Player development
3) Scouting and analytics departments
etc.
All of their advantages are the result of them being able to print money in that market.
Which superstar player do the Cards currently have to market?
Hopefully Bloom fixes it. I’m just pointing out out it’s more than market size.

Because the Dodgers wear blue and play in LA and the Cardinals wear red and play in St Louis. That’s why they aren’t the same.Kentucky kid wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 07:27 am Tradition and great fan support and cardinal baseball has become what it is today , as the dodgers continue their dominance.Does it all start with ownership?

The Dodgers do have a huge revenue advantage....but give them credit....they develop players better than we do!Jatalk wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 15:13 pmI get your point and I don’t expect nor think it wise for St Louis to spend like they do. Especially pitchers.
I’m optimistic that we are on the rebound thanks...hopefully...to a revitalized farm system!

With all due respect......The Dodgers had not won a World Series since 1988 until they won in '24! That was 36 years! The Cards also have won 2 since '89 and 3 since '82......same as the Dodgers. Just sayin'Kentucky kid wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 07:27 am Tradition and great fan support and cardinal baseball has become what it is today , as the dodgers continue their dominance.Does it all start with ownership?

My hope is that once the minor league pipeline is rebuilt the org will return to doing everything they can. We’ll see.

I never once compared the two cities. I simply made them point that calling it thriving is inaccurate.HOUCARD wrote: ↑02 Aug 2026 14:19 pmThere is absolutely no way to compare St. Louis and the quality of life to LA, even with the stuff you mention.
