Takes a couple times, but great deep cuts.
Been on a huge classic rock bender of late. A lifetime ago my dad gave me a doobie brothers greatest hits cd and I scoffed at the old fart music.

What happened to time ? It’s here and gone…

To begin with, there's a large difference in the size of the fan base. Also, California has something like the world's 6th largest economy. Not America's, the world's. Thirdly, they don't mind spending money beyond the luxury tax because they know that if they put a premium product on the field it will make money. And lastly, they want to win at all cost and the Cards ownership only wants to win if they can do it cheaply.

You are correct there is much more to it than $$$. I will also say they are better marketers than this organization regardless of their market size.

The Dodgers have unlimited money glitch. Their ownership group could easily absorb hubdreds of millions in losses if need be. They could over pay and acquire every single star player if they wanted. It's not good for baseball when every market is in a constant state of just waiting for their star player to end up in LA or NYM. The Mets have done a terrible job of actually building a winning culture but when/if they do it will suck the life out of baseball. About 2-4 other teams that can spend big too but not on the levels of LA(1) and the Mets(2). If this hasn't made it clear why MLB desperately needs a cap system then I don't know what we're even doing.

I for one can’t wait for the lockout. The whole system needs to be reconfigured. It’s a total joke right now.

It's not too difficult to market a team of superstars including a one of a kind guy like Ohtani.

All of their advantages are the result of them being able to print money in that market.

Which superstar player do the Cards currently have to market?

LA, thanks to a sweetheart deal, gets to keep every penny for their broadcasting deal. All other 29 teams put their broadcasting money into a pot that then gets shared evenly. It starts there. That goes back to when Frank McCort sold the Dodgers however long ago. Why? I don't have the particulars.

That, plus their broadcasting market being...LA...do the math...gets them here every time.

So if you see some chud saying that you're mad because your team won't spend like LA... it's not true. My team won't, no doubt. But it also can't. Literally can't. Even if they had the same sweetheart deal.

While this is true, even if they didn't it wouldn't matter. The Dodgers ownership group has pretty much unlimited spending power just from their own pockets outside of any team revenue. For instance, they could eat bad contracts and throw another one in it's place and not sweat a bit. They could loss hundreds of millions every year and write it off like it's nothing.

Dodgers have a consortium of Billionaire owners who spend to an almost 0 income level. BDW doesn’t want partners like that.

Can you please cite some reasons that point to LA as a thriving city at present?

The answer to this question is simple. The Cardinals are not the Dodgers because they are...the Cardinals.

When the money dynamics changed, we were no longer able to compete. The MLB needs to adopt the NBA style of contracts and salary cap.
