I’m certain the Mets(45-62) PLAN was to win this season………
Been watching MLB for 50yrs……you don’t sabotage a season where you ARE WINNING so that in 2-3 yrs when you say you will start winning
It don’t work like that.

But somehow the Great DeWitt has convinced you SMART baseball people exactly that. While he pay LOW payroll for 3-4 yrs
He could win this year but won’t pay…..he could win next year but won’t pay…..But 2028 with players no one knows how they’ll do in MLB…..that’s the time to win
The Cards aren't sabotaging...that's your faulty premise's building block.
What would a normal MLB team or even the Cards of years back do in the weeks up to the trade deadline leading the WC?
Talk about trading starters from that team and start dropping stories to media of the players who might go???

I will give it a listen. You didn’t answer, though. Do you personally believe the Cardinals have went cold because of trade rumors?
It’s a combination of Oli not knowing how to sustain a winning team through season
And
Young guys letting down whether consciously or not because they’re well aware the FO is selling no matter what they do and these words came directly from Winns mouth.

A lot of teams on the periphery have been smart and sold the brewers traded their closer while in contention in 2021 and turned the trade into Contreras

They want to win. I believe that. But they want to do it with a barebones cheap roster. That's the real problem. He they are trying to construct a competitive roster on the cheap and it never really works.Cincy and Pit have been doing this dance for decades. They get one little window of a couple of years to make the playoffs maybe and then it's all over again for years. It's sickening that one of the crown jewels of the National League would subject their fan base to this philosophy. Teams that spend money win consistently. Teams that don't have to live on a prayer.
Yea the Mets angels padres spend consistently and have a lot of trophies and teams like the rays and brewers who don’t win nothing can’t even make the post season
It matters where you spend the money as much as how much you spend. The Angels have wasted Mike Trout and Pujols because they didn't invest properly in pitching. Same with the mets. I can't speak to why San Diego hasn't won other than the division they reside. As for the Rays and Brewers, well, how many championships do they have?

Goldfan you’re spot on. Two weeks ago we were leading the WC. Now we’re only 2.5 games back. It doesn’t matter how you get into the playoffs but it does matter that you get in. Walker and or Wetherholt and any of those pitching prospects could be injured by or during 2028.
We should be spending some of the money saved to make a good sprint to the finish line. I don’t have a problem trading for the long term plan and sticking to that but it should be in conjunction with trying to win this year. To many fans on card talk like to give up, especially after a slump. We have a young team that can improve quickly. The slump will end. Maybe tonight was the start of something good.
What I hope happens is that the cards make reasonable offers to guys like May for a longer commitment and if he doesn’t accept then trade him for someone who is more likely to with similar upside.

They need to develop two young, cost controlled, front of rotation SPs and that probably doesn't happen until late 2027 or 2028.

Expecting them to be rebuilt by 2027 was always likely to be expecting too much.

I'm only slightly surprised that Romero isn't there with May and Stanek. Otherwise I would agree that they don't have to trade anybody else right now.
I’d love to see them acquire one of the P trading Winn
Well, FWIW, mlb.com's ETA for some of the Cardinals pitching prospects:

Mathews - 2026
Cjintje - 2026
Doyle - 2027
Clarke - 2027
Fajardo - 2028
Franklin - 2028
Some of those ETAs are just laughable. Obviously Mathews was correct. Cjintje just got promoted to AAA, but hasn't done much. No way he sees the big leagues this year. No way he starts with the club in 2027. Maybe he makes it later in the year. Doyle maybe starts in Memphis next year, he has some chance of getting up late in the year, but I don't rate it too high. Clarke is pitching in A ball. He is likely 2029. Fajardo is pitching in A ball, 2029. Franklin is pitching in A ball 2029. Pitchers are rarely great there first year or 2 in the MLs. The Cards pitching and hitting windows are not lining up right now.
