2028 isn't that far away considering there will be no MLB played in 2027TheFantasyStud wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:38 am Not sure I love the plan.
Hearing 2028 is depressing. We have so much money we could spend in the off season and the team doesn’t have that many holes to fill. Geez, if we had a good bullpen this year than we’d be in a much different place right now. Let alone an ace to replace our fallen ace (Libby)
Am I the only one that wishes Pujols or Molina was managing this team? Oli seems like a great guy and I say, promote him to GM. To me, he doesn’t have the winner mentality that Pujols and Molina have. Both of those guys could be our modern day Yogi Berra. I just don’t see how we give up on trying to make the playoffs this year. You can plan long term and still go for it each year. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. Especially knowing how much money we aren’t spending.
A couple simple things that could change things. Move Lars up in the order. Batting Walker 2nd isn’t as ideal as having men on base when he’s up.
1.Weatherholt
2. Herrera (C)
3. Nootbaar
4. Walker
5. Burleson
6. Velazquez (DH),
7. Church / Torres
8. Jordan
9. Winn
Put Liberatore in the pen. Call up Matthew’s. Go get a pitcher at the deadline for the rotation and some bullpen arms. Wacha, Alcantara, Ryan, Etc would be amazing here.
Trade away, Pages and either Crooks or Bernal. Should probably try to move Church too.

It don’t work like that.
But somehow the Great DeWitt has convinced you SMART baseball people exactly that. While he pay LOW payroll for 3-4 yrs
He could win this year but won’t pay…..he could win next year but won’t pay…..But 2028 with players no one knows how they’ll do in MLB…..that’s the time to win

Exactly, been saying this since offseason. Cut the slugs off roster and there’s a young core. With JW emerging there the power bat. If they just kept WC and Gray they’re fighting for division. BDW won’t spend $$ to win now.butsir01 wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 17:32 pmAmen!CCard wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 14:14 pmThey want to win. I believe that. But they want to do it with a barebones cheap roster. 2028 is just what the organization is throwing out there to pacify fans. Anyone who thinks DeWitt is suddenly spending big starting in 2028, is fooling themselves. He is a master at moving the goal posts. Remember the big FSM TV deal back 15 years ago? That was going to allow the Cardinals to make big moves. What FA splash did DeWitt make?ForumPolice wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 16:06 pm2028 isn't that far away considering there will be no MLB played in 2027TheFantasyStud wrote: ↑29 Jul 2026 11:38 am Not sure I love the plan.

Red, I agree. I just do not see how our roster can be a serious WS contender, even by 2028. We lack talent frontline and in depth. Where is the talent going to come from? I do not believe that ownership will spend to acquire it.

Here it is Red
We aren’t going to win so we keep the chitty manager
We aren’t going to spend money because we aren’t going to win
At some point when most here are dead ….all these prospects will emerge and dominate MLB and then BDW might spend $$ and find a real manager
If you don’t agree with this you’re an idiot. Now don’t get all wrapped up in the fact that this has never happened in the history of Cards Baseball, that BDW hasn’t had a winning plan in 15yrs and that Bloom has never won anything.

The good ol "in season acquisition" that always turned into "we will wait to make moves over the winter." And then it would be "let's see what we need at the deadline.
