Re: Canes owner puts his kids' names on the Cup
The owner owns that portion of the Cup (cup). Anyone and everyone can bid on getting whatever they want to have engraved on the cup. To be fair, the bidding will start at eight million dollars because this bidding is reserved for that upperclass portion of the earths population, because come on, folks with the right amount of money automatically get this privilage. No other qualifications are necessary to be a part of this advertisement without doing anthing.
The Stanley Cup used to be respected as one of, if not the hardest trophy to earn. Yes I'm ticked off. But I'm just an old lifer fan of the great sport of Hockey. What do I know.

I’ll tell you why this bothers me… you have nepo-babies who’ve done fuckall to get recognition for something others are killing themselves for.
These guys are often fighting through mind-numbing injuries throughout the playoffs and deserve the rewards for the ultimate prize.

To be honest it's actually pathetic for both the league and the owner to have this happen.BleedingBleu wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 16:02 pmI’ll tell you why this bothers me… you have nepo-babies who’ve done fuckall to get recognition for something others are killing themselves for.

Literally pathetic.
I believe most here care about the Cup more than they do.

Then he should already be on there from 06BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 13:09 pm The long time equipment manager was left off - he's been with the franchise since 1976.

Right, so there’s no point in petitioning if the team can just do whatever the hell it wants, apparentlyrangergiff wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 13:52 pmAgain, according to Rivers, there are certain requirements to being listed on the cup. Games played is one for instance. I think they said 41. If they don't make that number the owners can petition the league to have them included. But apparently due to time constraints, so everyone's day with the cup can begin, it's not proofed before being on the cup. I honestly don't see how the NHL decided to not check it before engraving begins but I don't know. It was suggested that some team personal and one player that didn't reach the minimum game threshold were left off so the kids could get on it.tfriede2 wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 12:52 pmBut the Blues had to petition to get a player’s name added (Del Zotto) because he didn’t meet the eligibility requiremrnts; so now they just don’t care (owner and team) to abide by the rules?rangergiff wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 09:54 am According to Rivers on the Fast Lane yesterday, the NHL does not get a list of names prior to the engraving. At least one instance the HOF had the name of a person "Xed" out in the past. If true, it's time the NHL approves the list prior to the engraving.

Honestly I had a much larger statement typed up and then had to change it because I went off on too long of a rant and I felt crazy when I reread it.
I absolutely hate that that guy got away with that. I hope the players come together and put a stop to that shirt.

Total disrespect to the fans, to the league and, especially, to the cup
bull[shirt] move.
If necessary to fix it, I hope they can create a new ring, re-engrave it without the kids' names and replace the existing ring.

He is, and it sure would have been a great story to have him on there twice after a decades long career with the team. Screw Dundon. I have also read that he left before the season started, so wouldn’t have been on there anyway.bluetunehead wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 22:33 pmHe is, and it sure would have been a great story to have him on there twice after a decades long career with the team. Again though, where is the league? You should have to submit a list for approval.

That's pathetic. Whomever engraved it should have refused to have them put on it. I presume some league official approves who is engraved on it?

I was just thinking this as well. It's only a matter of time. Everything else has been whored out with ads.pucknugget wrote: ↑10 Jul 2026 11:03 am Not much of a stretch to see an owner selling a slot or two to have the gambling sites names on the Cup.

Not a fan of this at all. You don't get to put your kids, your dog, your cat, your cousins, and all your drinking buddies on the cup. This is a disgrace and completely disrespectful, imo.

Re: Canes owner puts his kids' names on the Cup
I think it would be great if a player said. "I'm proud of my teammates; I'm proud of my contribution; I'm proud of my ring; I'm elated for the fans; I know what I have done and so do those whom care about me; my name will be in the record books accordingly for posterity...but please respect my wishes and remove my engraved name off of this Cup for this Championship."
