How do you replace a guy who bleeds blue like that? They don't grow on trees. It's why everyone here is saying they want him to stay in the organization in a non-player role, which I agree with. What this team actually does need is seasoned veterans. We would've picked top 5 last offseason without Suter and Faksa (who both bleed green), and are now one of the youngest teams in the league who just put up another horrendous season and got us possibly another top-10 pick. Fabbri, the has been of has beens, was one of the highlights of the first half of the season. We were so bad that we needed Robby Fabbri to inject some energy into the lineup MIN liked what they saw.

Dude has no idea what it takes to build a successful team. Obviously has never been in a locker room.

Sign him as an either Director Of Player Development or as the Assistant to that position if they already one. Let him visit, mentor and check-in on the young prospects throughout the system, to help them mentally prepare on their path to becoming NHLers and a St. Louis Blue. Let him know that we value him and to please not go anywhere else, because in the highly unlikely event of many injuries or our AHLers not being able to answer the bell, then please stay in shape and we may sign him to a short NHL contract if needed.
We need to see how the summer and next training camp goes before even thinking about signing him as a player.

There has to be come changes clearly they arent impressed much with Drouin. Walker has sat a lot although you know what will get from him. Finley is ok, kinda meh.

Unless he is willing to be a regular healthy scratch and is willing to play for a million or so his time is likely done here but this is a guy I always want around the blues and the exact attitude I want every player to have

How about offering him an AHL player-coach contract to be Ott’s assistant? Could bring him up if needed and he would get a chance to start a coaching career, as well as keeping him in the organization.

He needs to be gone. When he re-signed, I was ok with it because he would provide depth and if he spent most of the time in the press box, he’d not block anyone or have any issues with development. Unfortunately, coaches can’t help but play him. If he’s on the roster, he’ll be playing and that just won’t do.

Feeling the same after reading through the first 2 pages of the thread.

Lot of players from that Cup team that I admire, but it's hard to place anyone over Sunny. I would love to keep him on 1-year deals indefinitely.

Agree with so many on here. Hard to replace a guy like that. At this stage, he's still young enough to heal/train over the off-season and be a good limited role player, but he's also been through enough to warrant retirement, which does seem like what is coming.

I'd rather move on from more of the bums that were a part of this season (and over half of last season), and run a 4th line of Schwartz-Sunny-Perron next season. People might mock, but I don't care. It would be very valuable to have those guys mentoring the likes of Stenberg, Carbo, Snugg, shoot the whole (drat) team at this point. Then you sneak into the playoffs next season and have those guys available over Walker or some rookie. Schwartz and Perron can sneak up the lineup when you need it, and all of them can sit and rest for prospects if they're not already missing some games due to injury.

He’s like that first puppy who you got for your first college apartment, moved with you to the first house, laid beside the crib, protected the backyard while irritating you by barking at every leaf blowing down the street, and whose face is suddenly ghost white, but only in pictures. He gets up when you move towards the door, wags the tail when you look in the direction, and follows you room to room despite having a comfortable bed near the kitchen.

Welp, I know what I’m naming my next weiner dog… Oskar Sundqvist. We can call him Oskar, Sunny… whatever, but never replaceable. Damnit.

Well that is a very good idea too. But that likely would be even better for him if our AHL affiliate was relatively close by (similar to the luxury that Bruins, Flyers, Sharks, Golden Knights, Avalanche, Senators, Jets, Ducks, Kings, Canadiens, among possibly a couple of others enjoy). I'm speculating that his life priorities at this stage may want him to be closer to home for the realistic amount of $ he will earn for limited playing time at either level.

You hit the nail on the head Harry. Love Sunny and he would be a valuable press box 14th forward at league minimum, but it’s the roster spot that will be tricky. I hope they sign Berggren for at least a 1 year deal, as he was productive when given the chance and brings speed and good play making ability. If so, you basically have:

Likely On the team (11): Thomas, Snuggs, Holloway, Buch, Neighbours, Dvorsky, Berggren, Stenberg, Suter, Toro, Finley

Decisions to be made (4): Kyrou, Drouin, Walker, Sunny (UFA)

On the cusp?? (2): Carbo, Kaski

That’s 17 players for 14 spots BEFORE any potential trades. I would probably even put Suter in the decisions category, but we need centers so badly, I left him. I just don’t see a feasible way we keep Sunny as an extra forward. My guess is he waits until late in the UFA cycle to see where the Blues end up to see if he can sign a 1-year league minimum with them.

Blues could do worse than keeping Sunny around as 12th/13th forward. If he gets cornered out of centering the 4th line he'll fall into the veteran squeeze and his days are numbered. I wouldn't put it past Sunny to actually win a job in camp, if he's still here, but he's clearly vulnerable as a player.
