I think that 4th line is going to be an interesting thing to watch this off season. None of them had a good season. Finley won faceoffs and added little outside of that. Can he bring more aspects to his game? Walker and Sunny struggled. Toropchenko got away from being physical and too often tried to skate around opponents instead of through them. With Stancl, Peterson, Kaskimaki, Pekarcik, etc there may be some changes coming to that line.

But loved Sunny, I don’t think there is a spot on the roster, but wouldn’t mind seeing him land in the front office or coaching staff. Teams need what he brought at his peak.

If we could get some of the Press Box guys to retire, then I want to see DP57 and Sunny take their rightful place in the Organization. Has anyone replaced Bobby Plager as Ambassador? Not sure if Hully or Thornburn took over that position.

I know people like Walker a bunch, but I wish we would have had the forethought to know that SunnyD on this team as a 50 game guy and 4th liner has some value. If hypothetically the team made the playoffs, who are you playing 4th line, walker or sunnyD?

I think it's easy to see if 0 changes were made how the lines would start developing by just signed blues players
top line - snuggy/thomas/hollywood (needs to be extended)
2nd line - Kyrou/Dvorsky/stenberg
3rd line - Buchy/Suter/Neighbours --
4th line - Torpedo/Finley/Walker
drouin ---- Carbs ---- Berg

that's all your signed players. That would leave the Blues with 22m in cap and they only have to replace 1 defender and extend hollywood. I don't think anyone looks at that bottom line and recognizes an identity. If you throw sunny in place of Walker, you at least have a huge line out there and finley can take faceoffs and play the wing.

I think this is why it's a foregone conclusion that kyrou is going to get dealt. But it's not becuase we are replacing within. I have a feeling that We are going to try and stack the deck with another big winger, maybe a center, and make the 4ht line non traditional and do something interesting with it.

Heart and soul guy for sure but he is pretty beat up- with his style that was always going to happen. I think he took more minors this year because the desire was there but the body was not able.

Watched Finley in front of the opponent net fighting for position and winning because of his size. He's no wus but needs to add serious skill and then he and Torpo would be good.

Walker also brings the will but not the way.

My brother lives in Kirkwood, his boy plays hockey for Kirkwood HS now as a freshman, but back in Feb 2021 he sent Sunny a text stating: my boy wears #70 in your honor and won the Blue Note Cup today, he's wondering if you're going to win a cup this summer too? Sunny replied: that's really a good number to wear. Congratulations!! and I promise we are going to do our best to bring back the cup to STL.

Unless he is willing to be a regular healthy scratch and is willing to play for a million or so his time is likely done here but this is a guy I always want around the blues and the exact attitude I want every player to have

These players...these "grinders" that get so much flak from a lot of this board....they remind me of why I love my lab so much...because you can count on them every single day of the week and month and year.

I can't see Sunny doing another year. He has looked really slow and I think he might be.
He would be great for the Blues, if NHL teams had, 'practice squads, that could be on the roster or off, without penalty.
Maybe the blues gives him a check and parks him on Long term for the year.

Feeling the same after reading through the first 2 pages of the thread.

Lot of players from that Cup team that I admire, but it's hard to place anyone over Sunny. I would love to keep him on 1-year deals indefinitely.

Agree with so many on here. Hard to replace a guy like that. At this stage, he's still young enough to heal/train over the off-season and be a good limited role player, but he's also been through enough to warrant retirement, which does seem like what is coming.

I'd rather move on from more of the bums that were a part of this season (and over half of last season), and run a 4th line of Schwartz-Sunny-Perron next season. People might mock, but I don't care. It would be very valuable to have those guys mentoring the likes of Stenberg, Carbo, Snugg, shoot the whole (bleep) team at this point. Then you sneak into the playoffs next season and have those guys available over Walker or some rookie. Schwartz and Perron can sneak up the lineup when you need it, and all of them can sit and rest for prospects if they're not already missing some games due to injury.

How do you replace a guy who bleeds blue like that? They don't grow on trees. It's why everyone here is saying they want him to stay in the organization in a non-player role, which I agree with. What this team actually does need is seasoned veterans. We would've picked top 5 last offseason without Suter and Faksa (who both bleed green), and are now one of the youngest teams in the league who just put up another horrendous season and got us possibly another top-10 pick. Fabbri, the has been of has beens, was one of the highlights of the first half of the season. We were so bad that we needed Robby Fabbri to inject some energy into the lineup MIN liked what they saw.

He needs to be gone. When he re-signed, I was ok with it because he would provide depth and if he spent most of the time in the press box, he’d not block anyone or have any issues with development. Unfortunately, coaches can’t help but play him. If he’s on the roster, he’ll be playing and that just won’t do.
