Oskar Sundqvist

Post by TheJackBurton »

Unless he is willing to be a regular healthy scratch and is willing to play for a million or so his time is likely done here but this is a guy I always want around the blues and the exact attitude I want every player to have

I fully expect him to retire and join the organization, possibly the coaching staff. Definitely the kind of guy you want around young players, and being Swedish is probably a positive with the Blues these days. Nothing but a guess.......

I don't disagree at all Frank. Even when he wasn't here he still repped St. Louis as much as possible. One of the big things the vets can pass onto the younger guys is culture and Sunny D can absolutely do that.

Love Sunny.

True story - flew with some of the Blues to Cancun and asked Sunny for a pic when we landed. He was really cool about it. But then De la Rose (think that was his name) jumped in. Had to crop him out.

Seriously brings some tears in my eyes. Always loved Sunny and how up and down the lineup he could play. Very smart player.
But yeah, I don't really want him on the team unless it's in a very low capacity.

I’m sure he does. Blues gave him a multi year contract when nobody in the league wanted him.

Love Sundvist. Played hard, smart player. Everybody gets older and slower. Nature of the beast. Seems like a good dude.

I know it feels like he's been around forever but he's only 32. Seems possible he's not ready to retire just yet.

Doesn't mean he'd get a contract from the Blues, or any NHL team, but I could see him playing overseas for 2-3 seasons before he hangs them up.

Agree with both of you. Keep him around if possible.

Especially when you've had two major knee operations.

IIRC, one was an accidental knee from behind by a teammate...

Glad to see Monty allowed him to take the opening face-off in what is likely his last home game as a Blue.

He plays for little now and never complains. He’s at the end of a 2 year 3 million dollar deal. A vet who would come back probably year to year for about the minimum. He shouldn’t take any ice time from our prospects but he doesn’t cost much to keep around to cover injuries or provide leadership.

I wouldn’t mind keeping him around for similar dollars. It’s not much of a risk but I get there’s several prospects closing in on the big club.

He’s unlikely to get more than that anywhere else.

I would love to keep Sunny, but in a coach/managment/office/PR position.

He has the ring, loves St. Louis, and is partner of a girl from the Lou.
