Yeah, they will be bringing in a veteran RD IMO and I imagine Faulk is staying now, because Lindstein is further along than either Mrtka or Jiricek. We saw what happens with two “rookies” together this year and I’d argue it torpedoed the season.Boomac wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:44 pm+1. We need to remember it took Broberg a few years of AHL development & shuffling to become the defenseman he is turning into. It'll take Mrtka (if we even get him), Jiricek, and Lindstein a year or two in the AHL to develop.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:36 pmDon’t know much about Mrtka, but with regards to Jiricek, he’s not making the Blues next year. If anything, he gets a cup of coffee, but he needs time in the AHL.clemonsonroots wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:25 pm more like a couple of years...Mrtka already doing very well at 19 in the ahl...likely makes the team next season as does Jiricek...we are not going to be going for it for a bit.
Maybe they get some games in between and show us flashes of what they can do (like Jiricek did this past preseason).

Would you rather be a middling team for 5 years or be bad for a few and then be a contender?TheJackBurton wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:20 pmYes i don't understand this potential trade because we don't have anyone good enough to take his place. Faulk certainly isn't, the cost to get a 1st line RHD is extremely expensive as displayed by this potential trade. Mailloux, Jiricek, and Mrtka certainly aren't it at this point in their careers, so yes I don't understand this trade.Ace wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 16:37 pmYou don't understand this potential trade? I still think the Bolts may add a RHD to round that veteran group out.
Detroit will also look to add a RHD
If CP55 approves, does Army keep Faulk to play big minutes on the right side and hold the hands of the youngsters next year?
A trade that might make us better in 5 years is not a great trade.

Mrtka is size AND toughness, and that 1st puts us in Klepov or Shilov range,

Cards gave a few players a million bucks each to accept the trades, so Blues may have to do this if Coltie is uncooperative.

oh this is 100 percent the steener effect. Nothing wrong with that. We once were russian leaning. The day Steener got the the Blues "scouting" role or whatever it was prior to the dvorsky/stenberg/lindstein draft, the first thing that happened was acquisitions of some sweeds/euros and then those 3 were drafted right away. They are trying to build a culture most likely. Makes it enticing for those players to come to STL in FA as well.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:34 pm Why are the Blues so heavy on Euros this can't be merely coincidence right the team could be 60% Euro soon
I'm fine with Parayko walking, but this team is going to SUCCCCCCK on defense. I hope we have some offseason ideas to package some wings talent to get a mid 20s forward if we are keeping our group. Because if we are going to go that young on the backend. We are going to need to keep faulk and possibly extend him now 2 years because we are F'd on age.

Correct, but the 18 year old did play 4 AHL games with an assist. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:46 pmMrtka is playing in the whl, not the ahl.zamadoo wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:43 pmHe still isn't even 19 until June.clemonsonroots wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:25 pm more like a couple of years...Mrtka already doing very well at 19 in the ahl...likely makes the team next season as does Jiricek...we are not going to be going for it for a bit.

Yes! Why is it reported if he hasn't yet approved the trade??? Some kind of pressure move?

Lol. There is no guarantee that you are going to be a contender. We could turn into what Buffalo has been the last decade. Don't understand this deal if you have to bring in a veteran body (which you will) at least half the cost of what you are paying Parayko. Faulk is going to be your no 1 RD? Hoping Parayko channels Krug here. Really hope nobody from the Blues organizatiion leaked this to leverage him, really [shirt]ty thing if so to a loyal Blue. Total class. Total gentleman.noted wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:50 pmWould you rather be a middling team for 5 years or be bad for a few and then be a contender?TheJackBurton wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:20 pmYes i don't understand this potential trade because we don't have anyone good enough to take his place. Re: Parayko going to Buffalo if approves
I'm ok with being bad on defense for a bit at this point. If you can get 2 really good pieces for Parayko and you don't expect to be relevant in 2-3 seasons with other moves you make, he'd be 35 at that point and in JayBo's spot in terms of his capability at that point. You won't get this kind of value then.
I do hope we make a few more moves though if Parayko agrees to go. This is the kind of move that you make if you know it's going to be a rebuild and are going to lose other pieces along the way, it's not a great look as a 1 off.

Accepting the trade means he immediately is taking a substantial salary cut to mive to Buffalo for the next four years. I would be really surprised if he waives.MandatoryDenial wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:52 pmCan you even do this under the CBA?MrPostman01 wrote: ↑04 Mar 2026 17:51 pm Cards gave a few players a million bucks each to accept the trades, so Blues may have to do this if Coltie is uncooperative.

Does anyone know if CP55 is in tonight's lineup? If he is, maybe he vetoed the deal.

I thought we were all on board with getting as high as pick as possible since this season is a waste? This is a step in the right direction.

All right, I’ve sacrifice the chicken. I have my lucky silver dollar in my pocket. The lucky rabbit’s foot in hand. And I’m reciting every Bible verse that I know that Colton Parayko is a buffalo Saber.
