He, to this point anyway, has absolutely zero concept of riding a hot hand.

I could just see him sitting Musial, Billy Williams, Mays, Aaron, Brock, Robinson (both) or others for a scheduled day off.
Re: Two undisputed truths about Oli Marmol
It's pretty obvious, from the last two years of Mayson Winn, that clear cut starters receive less days off.OldRed wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 12:00 pmMaybe it should be.ecleme22 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 10:37 am“Riding the hot hand” isn’t something that’s decided game-to-game.Bomber1 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 10:22 amI don’t feel too strongly one way or the other about Marmol’s extension, other than I would have waited until late May or June to make the decision.ecleme22 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 09:48 amUsually if something like that would happen, it would be a scheduled day off based on rest, pitching matchup, keeping other guys fresh.OldRed wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 09:35 amI can't wait until Wetherholt gets three hits in a game and then sits the next day.Goldfan wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 09:33 amAnd that’s great if he brings something else to the table as a manager…..ecleme22 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 09:24 amPlayers apparently like and respect Oli.

But say Cards have played a bunch in a row. The team has an offday on Monday. Oli let's JJ know that he will get Sunday off so he's has two days to regroup. If JJ gets 3 hits on Saturday, the days off should still stand. Not: "Oh man, he hot! Gotta ride dat hot hand!"

And really no need to do your completely ignorant “imitation” of Marmol.
You made some good points; why be an (donkey) over it?
Is it really that difficult for you to acknowledge that Marmol has sat players who didn’t need a day off after they’ve had a good game?

The closest player Oli has had to those players in both
production and health was Goldschmidt. He was played 150+ games by Oli.
Winn, Donovan, Burleson, Arenado all seen 150 games in 2024.
Young players do need to be challenged. That also needs to be balanced with
bad match ups. There's some hindsight comparisons in this when a player
is hot, skips a bad matchup, maybe he goes 0'fer in that matchup, it's unknown.
Re: Two undisputed truths about Oli Marmol
All of these would be managers should have applied for the job. It is a look in mirror thread
Re: Two undisputed truths about Oli Marmol
I don’t think the argument is, or should be about Goldschmidt, Arenado or any other established player. They need scheduled days off. What is, and has been relevant are younger players, who, for whatever reason, got to play a few games in a row and were hitting well. Then, Oli sits them and breaks up the momentum they had going! It has happened many times. If it had only happened a couple times, you could call it coincidence, but not when he keeps doing it. He obviously goes by a script and doesn’t stray from it for any reason. That’s what people think is DUMB!

I think Walker, Gorman, Herrera, Scott, Winn, Burleson, were the primary young players to be
given the PT.
Burleson played 139 games, IL wrist for 10 games 13 games off
Winn played 129 games, IL knee and back for 28 games, 5 games off
Scott played 138 games, IL ankle 13 games, 11 games off
Herrera played 107 games, IL knee and hammy for 51 games, 3 games off
Gorman played 111 games, IL Back and hammy for 22 games 29 games off maybe a case
Walker played 111 games, IL Wrist and appendix 32 games, 19 games off
I'm not thinking these guys set a lot considering their offensive struggles, The DH/1B positional
squeeze and other young players needing some PT too. Could just be a difference in opinion.
Arenado, Contreras, Donovan, and Nootbaar were also in the mix.

I didn't mention and don't care about Marmol's facial expressions, but go ahead and whack your straw man.ecleme22 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2026 10:08 amI get it. "Well, it's up to the players to play and have a good work ethic."
Fine. But then don't say he's "great with young players," or all the "players respect him." I'm sure they say great things about him when asked, in the same way all the kids in 3rd grade love the substitute teacher who lets them color all day and cleans up after them.
I'm telling you...this youth movement is going to suffer without anyone in the ML clubhouse able to act as disciplinarian. It's going to be a big lovefest until they start to lose, and Marmol gets to his usual tricks with the lineup.

They won't be relevant for a long time, so long they may become what the Pirates were for so long. Fact.Southern Illinois wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 09:51 amYou mean the same Dewitt that built this record of success over his tenure as a team owner?rockondlouie wrote: ↑01 Mar 2026 09:03 amBDWJr

I don’t hate Marmol but he said himself he would and did give young guys a day off after they’ve had a good game so they could feel good on a day off. I can’t provide a link but I saw him say it last year when questioned.
He was called “ the Cooler” in several threads last year and in 24.
Regardless, looking forward to some games that count!

season call up and list of first's out of the way. Not really sure where either ranked as getting priority time, as
rude as that might sound. NA staying squeezed PT or the others would have sat.
Fermin has never received a solid opportunity in the numbers game.
Even this seasons it could go to Urias.
Games will count real soon for a few of these players when the camp rosters reduce.
Still interested in how it plays out. Then OD.
