Goldfan did. That's how he undermines your thought.
Isn’t that the claim….that he gets along great with the players?
There is story in PD where the players attended the presser announcing his extension
It’s been stated here many times…..Players like Oli…..he relates to players well
Players apparently like and respect Oli.

What a horrible thing.

I can't wait until Wetherholt gets three hits in a game and then sits the next day.

Respecting a manager and being "best buds" don't equate. Not even a little.

Usually if something like that would happen, it would be a scheduled day off based on rest, pitching matchup, keeping other guys fresh.

That’s part of the angst against Oli in the past! Things seemed to be scripted and he doesn’t deviate from that, no matter what.

Yeah, that’s far fetched…
Hey now, there's no room for that type of critical thinking here, boss.

Right…..you sit before the season and plot all the off days for starters through Sept. Not knowing health, hot streaks, standings……
This is why we think he’s not managerial quality. These are humans not some dot on a chart.

Is that why they refuse to steal base when he gives them the sign? Is that why players, young and old, refuse to take his advice on training, videotape, etc.?

"Well, it's up to the players to play and have a good work ethic."

Fine. But then don't say he's "great with young players," or all the "players respect him." I'm sure they say great things about him when asked, in the same way all the kids in 3rd grade love the substitute teacher who lets them color all day and cleans up after them.

I'm telling you...this youth movement is going to suffer without anyone in the ML clubhouse able to act as disciplinarian. It's going to be a big lovefest until they start to lose, and Marmol gets to his usual tricks with the lineup.

I get it. You say Oli smile one time in the dugout, so that means it’s a frat house in the clubhouse.

I believe his were if the player wanted it, as Molina and Pujols never wanted a day off. Usually, a good manager can see if a player needs a day off and not usually after a good day. I do remember Herzog seeing a player needing a day off and often told them to not take infield or hitting before the game.

No, TLR scheduled days off.

Scheduling a day off takes the 'reward/punishment' out of it.

"Hey JJ, in this 3 game series, I'm going to start you the first two games, then give Fermin the start in the 3rd game. That is...unless you have a good game in the 2nd game..."

"Hey JJ, I know you are only 1 for your last 21, so I'm going to give you an off day tomorrow."

Short term rewards/punishment based on production are not a good way to handle a player's psychology over 162 game season...

I don’t feel too strongly one way or the other about Marmol’s extension, other than I would have waited until late May or June to make the decision.

But your last statement is simply not true. Marmol has even stated that he sits guys after a good game “so they feel good about themselves”.
He, to this point anyway, has absolutely zero concept of riding a hot hand.

92 players played 140 or more games in 2025 . . . . NOT ONE was a Cardinal.
