Nightingale is saying TB is giving up a Comp B pick and a prospect. But he doesn’t say to who lol. Maybe we get both?

"The Rays are sending out a prospect and a competitive balance round B draft pick, per Nightengale."

please tell me that's coming to the Cards

for me that will tip the scales for me to a 6.3....liking scale....I was on the fence around 5 before reading that.

If Cijntje (Rzep 2.0) can keep repeating the 2.67 ERA he posted at AA as he climbs the ladder, it could look good in a year or two.

I'm guessing the first-round pick will be around 28-30, considering where SEA finished?

The Mariners are sending Ben Williamson to Tampa Bay and two prospects to St. Louis in the Brendan Donovan trade: switch-pitcher Jurrangelo Cijntje, the Mariners' 2024 first-round pick, and Tai Peete, a 2023 first-round pick, sources tell @RyanDivish and me.

we get Peete or the Rays get Peete?

and ....ugh. Why?

.217 at High A ....
He is 20 and hit .260+ the year before.
162 K's last year...batted .217. He's young....but when there's a 4:1 disparity in K/BB....yikes. Maybe he'll get better
Going to hold off on passing judgement until I see the players. I have seen part of 1 inning so far.

Both are recent first round picks.

Not going to say the deal (subject to hearing the rest of it) is getting me excited about the 26 season, but they can be pieces down the road. Time will tell.

If it's Tai Peete...he's a nothing player
We're lucky to have so many minor league prospect honks like yourself on the board.
Prove me wrong. Look up his stats... He's a nothing 20 year old who can't handle infield so probably a CFer at best. 30
% k tate. Lots of swing issues. Can run.

Cijntje confirmed.
Hoping there are additional pieces, this doesn’t sound like a great return if it’s just him.
He’s clearly the centerpiece, and that’s not a good thing.
Why? Top 100 prospect. Big arm. High K rate.

He’s a very good prospect
He's no where near MLB ready, and we need MOTO RH bats.
Well yeah, but you weren’t getting an MLb ready one of those for Brendan Donovan lol
Which is why we were supposed to bundle him to get a needed target, not a gimmick P and another LH prospect.
A gimmick pitcher that is a top 100 prospect?
He's undersized as a SP. usually doesnt end well. Tink Hence was once a top prospect.

24th ranked Rays prospect...not too shabby....

we got the 72nd pick in 2026 draft....deep college draft.

That's good.

That would make sense as TB is getting Williamson but there’s no mention of them sending anything back to Seattle. So stands to reason some asset(s) will go from TB to St. Louis.

Colton Ledbetter Scouting Report:

Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 50 | Run: 50 | Arm: 45 | Field: 50 | Overall: 45

After spending two seasons at Samford University, Ledbetter transferred to Mississippi State as a junior and quickly established himself as one of the best hitters in the Southeastern Conference in 2023. The left-handed-hitting outfielder posted a 1.025 OPS, slugged 12 homers and stole 17 bases while mostly playing center field for the Bulldogs. The Rays liked what they saw, drafted him in the second round and signed him for an under-slot bonus of $1.3 million. After a brief professional debut that year, he spent all of 2024 with High-A Bowling Green and put together an .822 OPS with 16 homers in 109 games.

Ledbetter’s game is pretty steady across the board, with no real standout tools. His swing-and-miss tendencies have increased in pro ball, but he has shown a feel for hitting wherever he’s been, with a relatively compact swing and an all-fields approach. He has the bat speed and strength -- he's listed at 6-foot-1 and 205 pounds -- to generate pull-side power, especially against right-handed pitchers. Of his 16 homers for Bowling Green, 14 were off right-handers, and his OPS was 128 points higher against righties. Ledbetter also demonstrated some value on the bases in his full-season debut, despite not being a burner, as he stole 34 bags while only being caught seven times.

Ledbetter is athletic enough to handle center, albeit perhaps not at the Rays’ lofty standard for defense at that position, but his fringy arm strength could force him to a corner – which he should be able to handle well -- as he moves through a system featuring a handful of elite defensive outfielders. Playing a corner will put more pressure on his bat, and his performance at the plate will determine whether he can be a regular or perhaps a strong platoon option.

I’ll wait until we get all the confirmed deals and hopefully some smart person on CT will calculated the trade values so we can see the math behind this deal. But I am feeling really, really disappointed. Partially because my expectations were probably too high; partially because I hate to see Donovan go and mainly because I don’t see this deal helping our offense in the near future.

I’ll now go to my room and continue my pity party.
