Sounds like he got the surgery specifically to help him behind the plate. I’d imagine his primary position going into ST is CatcherCusecards wrote: ↑25 Jan 2026 11:48 amGood points.woofy25 wrote: ↑24 Jan 2026 22:03 pm The clear answer should be Herrera catches, Gorman DHs, JJ plays 2B and Donovan plays 3B. Herrera catching definitely deepens the lineup from an offensive standpoint.
It gets a little trickier from a defensive standpoint.
Herrera is probably the weakest of the current catching options(Pages/Pozo/Crooks) followed by Bernal(late 2026?) and Rodriguez(2027?).
So the question becomes...do they give Herrera another shot in 2026 OR use the upcoming season to acclimate him to a different position?
Guess we’ll find out.
If Donovan stays, what do the Cardinals do with Nootbaar and Gorman?

I’m hopeful that removing the bone spurs will allow him to throw from behind the plate. He’s shown the ability to call a game and frame pitches. Even a slightly below average arm will get it done considering his offensive profile.woofy25 wrote: ↑25 Jan 2026 14:03 pmSounds like he got the surgery specifically to help him behind the plate. I would look to see which of Donovan, Nootbaar, or Gorman could bring the best return at the deadline. However, i believe Donovan is dealt before Opening Day.

Trade Gorman, keep Donovan. Address the outfield.

That may be the stupidest thing ever suggested on Cards Talk. Credibility lost.

A big +1 I I never bought into the logic “but Gorman sucks nobody wants him and won’t trade anything for him so cards need to keep him and give this player who sucks another season to once again proves he sucks” what? That doesn’t sound right

I saw someone suggest giving China economic control of the StL metro area in order to build a Disney park in E. St Louis in order to rejuvenate the Cardinals.
This was just someone’s baseball trade suggestion.
