Hockey is not a game any fan watches for the defense.
If your playing defensive hockey it's because you don't have the horses to play real hockey.
This happens when teams have [shirt]ty gms.

Our goaltending is winning games other teams have no interest getting up for. Making our defensive hockey, more of a note.

Then there's our announcers having a pod cast during play and that just adds more turds to the already clogged up [shirt]er.

I probably watch ten full games a week. And our 3hours is the hardest to enjoy.
======================================================================
Yet here I am. I live in Georgia, have for near 28 years. I was a Blues fan from the beginning, apparently I was attracted to defense because I couldn't get enough of Glenn Hall and company. I rarely watch other games (playoffs excepted), just the Blues.

I'm akin to a St. Louisan who was a die hard Big Red or Rams fan. In years past I was, Big Red fan and a Rams fan until after the Warner years. I had a hockey team here in Georgia (Thrashers) that the league took away, that Atlanta City and regional leaders snubbed their nose at and let walk away. So, I watch the Blues, a team I might never again see play in person, paying for the privilege. Every game. I wear my Blues cap EVERYWHERE. I'm proud to be a Blues fan. A good number of people down here stop and talk a bit of hockey when they see me wearing it. I get more reaction than people in Dawgs gear, frankly because they are everywhere in droves.

I miss the Kelly voice and professionalism. But I'm still here.

I've been an NHL fan for many, many DECADES. Now that I'm retired and can actually follow ALL the team's games, well, life is good. I'm happy to debate the team's ups and downs but listen, after 58 years of Blues hockey and the entirety of the Thrashers existence on top of that, how could I possibly entertain the endless, mindless Army diatribes and all the negative agendas? How could I enjoy other broadcasts MORE than the Blues? How could I not comprehend the struggles of a challenged team? I lived through the 70's, Saskatoon, the turbulent 90's, hey even the Thrashers (yuck).

The Blues are much more than the here and now, today's game or this season. They are the sum of all things Blues in the past and all yet to come. They are why I wear a Blues cap, proudly. They are why I root for them regardless of the ups and downs, players coming and going, coaches and GMs galore. Seen all of that, over and over. Still here.

And we all love our wives till death do us part. That is besides the point.

What we should all be concerned about is ST LOUIS HOCKEY. Is the product and the trajectory creating more fans, or less fans? Does the current product have any chance of appeal to a kid?

How did you get hooked on St Louis Hockey when you were young? Here is my guess.
- It was not because they won a Stanley Cup.
- It was not because the owners were profitable.
- It was not because the team may move to Saskatoon if you don't support them.
- It was not because that is what good fans do.
- IT WAS BECAUSE OF YOUR LOVE OF THE TEAM'S NOTABLE AND TALENTED PLAYERS (Plagers, Gassoff, Hull, Pronger, Chase, Twist)

Who/What is hooking the 10-year olds in St Louis now?
Binnington? Parayko? Snuggerud? Dvorsky? Suter? Schenn? Thomas? Kyrou?
I don't see anything that is going to entice them to the games, and that is a BIG PROBLEM for the future!

Why bother competing for Cups just give beer belly a 12 pack and the promise of a first round exit.
I dont drink. And I think it's pretty funny that your idea of a good fan/complex man is an emotionally stunted teenager who roots for his team to lose all day every day so that his "favorite team" can land a top 5 pick and give him a chance to buy a jersey that he doesn't have to replace for a few years.

I always thought he'd start on the wing.

Not saying it's been a mistake, could be the best thing for him long term, but his stat production and helping the teams score could be quite different if he was on the wing.

Conversely, his center replacement may not have been as good as he has been there.

I had never seen a hockey game when I started following the Blues. I had never skated. I was 14, I believe. So, the players and names meant NOTHING. Jack Buck was the only name I knew prior.

Having raised a son in St. Louis, I plopped him into learn-to-skate, pushing folding chairs around the ice at South County. Kids pick up on star players names, yes, but they are more attracted to the notion of the team and sport as some magical thing. It's huge when they encounter older youth players, see real games at the rinks, participate, and see current and former pro players. They see us following the sport, watching games. The specific players don't really matter to young kids per se, they are still mythical figures like Spiderman. In fact, we would encounter Federko, Michelletti, Turnbull, and others; I would tell stories about seeing them play. Eye rolls from my son. Again, participation is the main interest driver for kids.

When my son was growing up everything was Ozzie, Ozzie, Ozzie. We encountered the Blues at rinks on multiple occasions. The kids knew who Brett Hull was, but that's about it. It was my WIFE who once chased Pronger into a men's restroom at Affton trying to get his autograph.

Tell your kids to keep an eye on Jake and Jimmy. Maybe Holloway, Broberg, Hofer. Once Dalibor gets going point him out. Take him to a Blues game now and again. You'll still be talking about those times thirty years down the road.

Ummm...do you know when these guys were drafted (and by whom)? Do you honestly think we haven't had anyone on this team as talented as Chase, Twist, Gassoff, or the Plagers during Armstrong's tenure?

The idea of not trying to win in order to get a high draft pick is a loser mentality, and I'd hate to think anyone in the organization thought that way. This team has NEVER been the team that you seem to want them to be, so I'm not sure why you ever became a fan in the first place. I've been watching them for over forty years and I have seen some incredible players wear the note without needing a top 5 pick to get them here.
