Holy Sheet!!!--Cards having preliminary talks to EXTEND Oli Marmol

I hate this.

Because now I have to read and hear a bunch of simpletons shout to the hills that the manager is the problem with this deeply, deeply flawed team for the past four years.

The Marmot is a weak, obedient member of the STL rodent community, perfectly willing to remain prey for superior predators at the expense of living a minimalist existence for as long as he can survive.
Who gave Mikolas 31 starts?
The Marmot.
Who obediently denied starts to McGreevy until it will too late and irrelevant, even though he was the far superior option?
The Marmot.
Who refused to bench N/A simply because of his contract, wasting yet another season of giving opportunities to younger, better players?
The Marmot.
Who continued to play Lars The Human-Sushi-baar and repeat the propaganda that he was "a long term core player" at the direction of Super Slo Mo - even though it had been obvious for years that the outfielder was no such thing and never would be?
The Marmot.
Who made the laughably inept decision to begin the season with Herrera as the anointed starting catcher - even though Ivan has never displayed even the most basic competency at the position and had been rejected by the pitching staff?
The Marmot.
On and on and on the list could go.
Oliver Marmol has badly mismanaged the roster simply because he is too weak, too much of a yes man for the front office, too interested in being liked rather than respected by players.
We can fairly debate the quality of the roster he has had to work with each year.
But he consistently gets less from it than he should.

Marmol does not have final say who is on the roster.

Marmol said as diplomatically as he could that he wanted to put in McGreevy for Fedde.

Consistently gets less than he should from the roster!? A roster that includes Miles Mikolas, Garret Hampson, Erick Fedde, and Andre Pallante?

Melville, if you weren't consistently enjoying the smell of your own farts on here, I would absolutely think you were joking.

He decides who plays.
When.
And where.
The Marmot has consistently been terrible in those decisions.
As illustrated though my perfect list of examples above - which is but a small sampling of the many mistakes he has made.

If you were 1/3 as smart as you think you are you wouldn’t be pontificating and patting yourself on the back in Cards Talk but would be running a team somewhere.

He’s a babbling narcissistic fraud. LOL
He’s harmless and this is an anonymous forum and obviously his main source of ATTENTION.
So.....we’re giving him that attention.
He does make me laugh which is why I call him the Sideshow Clown.

I miss Maaaarrrggie and WCBW. They were funnier with less of an edge....... Now we are left with Meville and Shady..... so sad... Oh, and Olipad and Blake

I came here to see how CT imploded in Oki extension speculation. I just read the first few posts and last few. Ahh ok it's all about Melville again.

1. 2028 is when the Cardinals are going to matter competitively again. A long time yet to see who the managers is then.

2. Marmol could get extended but ultimately move into a player development role.

3. The current manager is going to to have to prioritize development again in 2026.

Lol at anyone that thinks could manage the team half as well as Oli. I love watching people's heads explode though. I hope they resign him for 5 years.

I honestly don't know if anyone else could have gotten a better record from this team in 2025. I do know pulling Quintana after 75 pitches and trying to get 2 innings from a closer with a jammed finger was idiotic and he STILL thinks he made the right decisions that night. He did pull starters far too early in 23 and 24, but this year, at least before their epic collapse, I thought he did a much better job managing the BP.

What I DO know is the majority of the fans have no faith in Oli and view him as a remnant of the past regime and do not believe he's done anything to prove he's worthy of an extension at this time. Giving him ANOTHER undeserving extension will do nothing but further alienate the fans and slow the timetable of trust and success they're trying to rebuild.

As far as you Oli apologists go, I have no idea what you see in him that warrants such undeserving loyalty.

Not an Oli apologist at all. I couldn't care less if he were fired today or extended another couple season. This team does not have the talent to compete. Look at the starting rotation and 9 man starting lineup the last couple seasons and tell me with a straight face what manager could actually guide this team into the playoffs, keeping in mind that we sold off our top 2 bullpen arms at the trade deadline last season as well.

Which forced The Marmot to give more appearances to Svanson, who was clearly the team's most effective reliever.
That never would have happened had it not been forced on The Marmot.

Oli is fine as long as he is paint by numbers managing. Give him 3 or 4 good relievers and he will go with the formula 7,8,9 to win games. Other than that when he has to actually manage or if the paint by numbers fails he short circuits. He’s also not a good motivator the players like him because he’s their buddy but he doesn’t motivate them it was confirmed when arenado said in the win streak it was a couple of years since they came to the ball park expecting good things to happen instead of hoping good things happen that said it all there. It means when pujols and Molina left it was all on oli to lead the team and he isn’t a leader he’s a friend

So he had a top 10 MLB bullpen by being paint by numbers? He certainly didn't have a top 10 talented MLB bullpen.

How did he not? The numbers say otherwise. He would go to the same solid relievers when he had the lead paint by numbers. If the game didn’t go that way he lost his mind. Look no more than the confused bewildered look on his face when he watched and watched and watched and watched as helsley melted down in the post season classic deer in the headlights look on his face had no clue what to do because that wasn’t scripted. There's the go to Cards Talk come back. "Well if you love Oli....." Again, I never even said I like him or hate him. With this roster, what manager is going to win? He led a patched together bullpen to a top 10 ERA in 2025. That's not paint by numbers.

For years nobody on this site supported Mozeliak and his decision-making more than you did.
Now Mozeliak’s roster sucked but Oli did as much as possible with what he was given?

Well he’s good at I guess getting players to like him. He’s a paint by numbers manager isn’t good at getting the team to play good fundamentally but the players like him and I’m sure they don’t want him feeling any pressure to be good at his job or win

Oli Marmol in 2023 - “All this losing is going to serve us well in the future.”

He has absolutely zero sense of urgency.

The only losing that serves you in the future happens in October.

These young guys need to start getting some playoff experience to draw on in future years when we have enough talent to maybe win.

Maybe if their manager held them accountable for idiotic baserunning, throwing to the wrong base, and ridiculously bad at-bats they’ll become good ML players.

But Oli doesn’t hold them accountable. Except O’Neill whose situation he handled terribly.
