Montreal saw something they didn't like in Mailloux and decided to move on from him. Looks like they were dead on.

Bolduc sealed his fate against Winnipeg in the playoffs, he was terrible. Blues saw something they didn’t like and decided they could move on from him. It’s going to take Mailloux a couple of years to get him playing like he did in the AHL.
We had chances, we just couldn’t finish. When Justin Faulk and Nathan Walker are your two best players …that’s gonna make for a long night.
Parayko was terrible, nothing from Thomas, Fowler and Buch not good. Not sure if Neighbours even realized this game counted because he brought nothing to the table last night.
Yea the whole team sucked, but you’re insane if you don’t understand why the guy that was the center of the biggest offseason move is going to be under a microscope. It wasn’t that it was all Mailloux’s fault, it was that he barely looked NHL caliber.

Years? We traded Bolduc for a guy that might be serviceable years from now? You just don’t do that…that’s a guy you get for a 2nd or an ok-ish prospect.
Under a microscope after one game…..lol
He’s serviceable now…he just needs to play.

He was not NHL caliber last night and this is a GDT. You’re surprised people are commenting on his performance?

As I’ve said in other posts, he will get his shot and obviously I’m hoping he does great.

Was Colton Parayko NHL caliber last night? How about Jake Neighbours?

I was sitting in my seat thinking these guys were going to get the riot act given to them between periods. Wonder what Monty said and why it didn't get through to these guys. Shouldn't have to on opening night anyways.

Kyrou looked sheepish on the puck, as usual, and missed the net completely, as usual.

No intensity whatsoever from anyone. I thought Tucker would drop them just to get some emotion going. No jump from anyone.

The free tickets went from awesome to (bleep) from the jump. Everyone around us was wondering what the F was going on. Completely unacceptable.

One game but guys, it was as bad in person as it looked on tv.

Those guys have track records to fall back on (though Jake is starting to worry me a bit honestly as he’s been trending less and less noticeable/impactful for a bit). We can talk about them too though.

But LM is going to be judged now and it will only get more intense if Bolduc continues to produce. This is his shot. His first swing was a loud whiff. Hope for better Saturday.

How do you propose Logan Mailloux should get a “track record”?

Next season Bolduc will get an extension and could be a big one if he nets more than 25 this year. The Blues are going to extend both Holloway and Broberg the Blues wont be in cap trouble at that point they will use a prospect or two to fill some gaps but they simply didnt have space for Bolduc.

The Blues feel like they already have their top 4 wingers set they like Snuggerud more than Bolduc so they dealt Bolduc. Whether or not the trade was good for the Blues as it relates to Mailloux will not be known soon which of course doesnt mesh with sports fan forum characteristics.

I don't know if I would be cooking Kyrou so bad for last night, he was the only player generating any consistent offensive pressure. I understand general knock but I wouldn't put him in the top 3/4th of the issues last night.

The Blues should've explored some trade possibilities with Colton Ellis. Like a package (Texier, Kessel or others) deal to Buffalo for Mattias Samuelsson.
Why would any team trade much for Ellis when they knew the Blues would have to waive him thru? The Blues werent trading Hofer or Binnie to keep Ellis, it happens its why the rule is in place.

I don't think its knee jerk at all.

First of all I don't even see anyone saying anything crazy but yes game 1 carries some weight.

We had an off season to get geared up and improve as A team and on an individual level. While its not the end all of everything I personally think how you come out in game 1 is important and it was not good nor was I a big fan of our preseason performance.

I would feel different about that if we had went deep in the playoffs etc. but IMO I team where we are at we should be firing pretty hard in the preseason and to start the NHL season and I didn't see either of those things.

As far as Mailloux, I'm good I am good with letting him develop and I'm glad we have him but you don't trade Bolduc for that IMO. Nor do I think anyone defending it would have made that move.

One of the great things about sports is you get to see how people respond to adversity. Coaches, players, fans. It's fun to sit back and grab some popcorn. Good entertainment.
