Sadly, it tells me that our hitters were so inept that they couldn’t execute what the Mozo Method wanted from them.
Just because they didn’t hit many HR’s doesn’t mean they weren’t trying to.
Ever since Matt Carpenter continually refused to slap the ball through the shortstop hole against the shift, this franchise has shown they have no desire to play any small ball whatsoever. That philosophy clearly has been dictated from the top, which was Mozo the Clown.
"Mozo the Clown" is childish, Hazelwood. How old are you?
Stop being the Cards Talk scold, you putz. How old are you?
You really, REALLY get incensed with the Mozo the Clown handle. Way more than a neutral fan normally would. So much so, that you are obviously a friend of Mozo, a relative of Mozo, or a Cardinal front office shill.
Whatever your relationship is to The Great Mozeliak, I shall continue to use the Mozo the Clown handle as long as I post to Cards Talk. He absolutely deserves it for his role in utterly destroying the Cardinal franchise at the major league level and destroying the Cardinal minor league and development system.
So, for old time’s sake, here’s one more golden goodie:
Mozo the Clown!
You call it childish. I call it accurate. We differ in opinion.
Have a glorious evening.

I think most fans are hopeful...but the 'Mozo the Clown' stink will be around for awhile...but he'll have more time to spend with his beautiful family!

Re: To DeWitt and Bloom:
Having a good contact rate is important no matter how many home runs are being hit. Brewers, Cubs and Blue Jays all make excellent contact. With that being said the Dodgers 675 million dollar man struck out 4 times last game and you would probably take him. Making contact is crucial but the home run is still extremely valuable. Raleigh hit 60 while hitting 239 avg. and he is probably the MVP. Schwarber is another example of the value of the home run.
Question ... why is no one mentioning Sagesse if you value contact rate? After the All Star break Sagesse was one of their better hitters and would often foul off numbers pitches to protect the plate. He is also an excellent defensive player.

Good point on Saggese. He battles with two strikes. Maybe his teammate (especially Gorman and Walker) can learn from him.VillaCard wrote: ↑06 Oct 2025 09:52 am Having a good contact rate is important no matter how many home runs are being hit. I agree with you 100%, Voldemort. Since you didn't say "in my opinion", and stated that the results won't change with such
certainty, I thought you might have an in. That's all.

man, that brings back such fond memories !12xu wrote: ↑04 Oct 2025 19:06 pmI agree that the Cardinals should not try to assemble a lineup of all or nothing type HR sluggers. They play in a pitcher's park, and should concentrate on getting a group of line drive hitting, high average batters.Hazelwood72 wrote: ↑04 Oct 2025 15:56 pm Bill & Chaim,
Please note the following fact from the Cubs-Brewers game today.
The Cubs have 3 HR’s and are losing 9-3.
The Brewers have ZERO HR’s and are winning 9-3.
Conclusion: You don’t have to blindly swing for the fences like so many Cardinal hitters to score lots of runs, win games, be exciting, and fill the seats with paying butts.
Bonus history lesson: Tommy Herr had 110 RBI’s on only 8 HR’s in the Cardinals pennant winning season in 1985. Busch Stadium was packed with paying fannies in those days.
So there’s your fricken “business case”. Now go execute it.
I loved the '85 Running Redbirds, but that team is almost impossible to replicate successfully today. In 1985, the Cardinals played 120 of their 162 games on artificial turf. There are only five current MLB parks with artificial turf, and only two are in the National League. That team had contact hitters, great speed, stole more bases than any NL team since the deadball era, and had FIVE switch hitters in the starting lineup.
