What I would like is for Army to get his day of reckoning.
Why don't the reporters ask...
1) Wasn't Jiricek drafted to be the elite RHD?
2) Was trying to draft a TOP5 talent at #16 with injury-risk a mistake?
3) Why does Montreal have SO MUCH defensive prospect talent, and STL have SO LITTLE?
Army is never held accountable for his mistakes, and a result his approach will not change.
This year's mistake...
Trying to trade for a TOP5 talent with known defensive and off-ice risk and giving up a proven young winger to take that roulette spin.
Reporters don’t ask these questions because they’re leading and nonsensical. No, Jiricek wasn’t expected to be elite. If he was, he would’ve gone top-5, not 16th. As for if it was a mistake, it’s been 1 year. He just turned 19 a little over a month ago. You make it sound like a forgone conclusion he’s the next Rundblad or Schmaltz. And Montreal has more top defensive prospects because they used more of their draft picks on them lately. The Blues used more of theirs on forwards. The two teams swapped a d-man for a comparable forward as they both dealt from a position of strength. It’s as simple as that yet you’ve once again found a way to turn it into some grand conspiracy and another “fault” of Army’s. The shtick has gotten old.
So the team that has drafted all defense lately also has Demidov at the gate.
Let's be honest, shall we....?
The Canandiens have GREAT PROSPECTS because of their draft position.
The Blues have SH111111T PROSPECTS because of their draft position.
Canadien fans will be watching elite stars every night because of their draft position.
Blues fans can watch HULL, OATES, and GRETZKY on YOU TUBE anytime they want from 20 years ago--because of their draft position.
Armstrong and the fans believe that there is NOTHING LOST BY DRAFTING OUTSIDE THE TOP 5, and THAT IS COMPLETE [nonsense].
Same top-5 shtick. Then lists 3 former Blues, none of which were even drafted by the Blues and none of which were top-5 picks, thus pretty easily proving himself wrong that these types of players can’t be obtained otherwise. Classic.
The greatest players in the history of the game are very often TOP5 picks. Not always, but a very large majority of the time.
Does anyone else cringe when you see lists of the best NHL players? You don't expect to see a single Blues player, do you? Do you think that that is a good thing for this city? I don't.
Haven't you noticed it's the BAD teams that get top-5 picks, with rare exceptions? I'd rather follow a GOOD team playing good hockey, getting into the playoffs. You are advocating for the Blues to become a BAD team. Over Army's tenure with the Blues he's in the top-5 in WINS, not draft position. No, the ranking lists do not matter. We've recently been treated to a Stanley Cup and a 300-plus goal 109 point team, and the current team is very compelling. The key is TEAM, not any individual. Know why? It's a team sport.
Haven't you noticed that Florida and Edmonton and Dallas have 2 TOP5 picks on their team? Are they BAD teams?
Haven't you noticed that every playoff team last year had at least 1 TOP5 pick--except the Blues?
Haven't you noticed that there is very little difference in win % between GOOD and BAD teams in the regular season? The worst teams win at 40% and the best teams win at 55%. I don't consider that a major difference.
I want to watch elite players on my team. That matters to me every game and every day of the year. Why should.my city be nothing but a band of non-descript, average players?
My #1 question for you... Why should St Louis be the ONLY TEAM IN THE NHL with no elite talent?

I've followed the Blues since their inception, it is quite probable that I've experienced many more of the ups and downs of being a fan of this team than you have, if you are really a fan, and yet through all the dire circumstances that befell this team I've remained a fan. Apparently, I can appreciate a lot of things you refuse to comprehend. I do not care what you want, it's not about you or scratching your peculiar itch, it's about following this team and the sport. This isn't a gotcha game, it's a forum for fans of the Blues. Your "#1 question" is wholly irrelevant.

There is a guy named Broberg that got drafted #8 in 2019 that showed “top 5” skills and potential last season.
Mailloux is a 2022 1st rounder to go along with a 1st rounder in 2023 and 24 used on a d-man, I’d say the Blues are fine with defensive prospects for now. They have Colt playing at a top tier and that should continue for the next 2-5 years. I don’t see why Fowler can’t be in our top 4 after being resigned for 3-4 more years.
If Mailloux doesn’t show top 4 potential right away then the Blues will have to make a trade or sign one after Faulk is gone next offseason (maybe at the deadline if one is available).
LOL, again and again this clown's posts are a waste of oxygen. Thomas, Kyrou, Buch, Holloway are elite forwards in the NHL AND we didnt have to tank to get them, brillance
Broberg, Lindstein, Mailloux, Jiricek are very very good d prospect, zero worries

It is good to spot someone that doesn't know what they are doing.
Army has been trying to replace Petro since 2020. Mailloux is the latest great-Petro hope, not the first.
Mailoux was needed because Jiricek failed. Jiricek was needed because Krug failed. etc etc etc.

At his ceiling and stylistically who does he compare to? Bouchard?
I was hoping he could fight a bit, but it seems some smaller guys had their way with him.
Why does that matter?
Did Petro win any fights during his career?
Oh wait, he played his entire career and was never in a fight.
Winning a fight isn’t the end all for a player, but having the heart to show up and fight is IMO.
Toughness is not what people should worry about when it comes to Mailloux.
Defensive awareness and overall hockey IQ is number 1 on the list with his ability to learn from his mistakes almost as important.
You know who are / were great fighters?
Makar
MacInnis
Parayko
Faber
McAvoy
Morissey
Should I go on or stop there? I need to get back to work

What about Chicago, Arizona, San Jose and Buffalo? They all have top 5 picks and sit regularly at the bottom of the league.
Arizona is a terrible example because they were broke - Buffalo does draft well but trade away all of their talent for cacca.
San Jose is going to he good eventually and I think the Hawks will he competing before the sharks based on better defense and goalies.

True - Parayko has some of the worst instincts possible when he was a rookie.
Just reading the Montreal forum during the trade recently seems to paint a picture of him being offense only.

Our prospects are ranked and have been ranked no better than 15th among the 30 teams. This is average in my book. Further, it is pitiful considering that the Blues just freshly completed their re-whatever. The ranking should be very high, given the Blues cycle.
Some people believe that replacing average old players with average young players is significant improvement. I don't. Do you see any young ROR's? Any young Tarasenko's? Any young Petro's? The Blues are a good team, but they have a zero path to great.

Replacing players with "average" players boosted the team to a record winning streak and playoff appearance where they totally shellacked Mr. Hart/Vezina in St. Louis and took his President's Trophy team to double overtime in game 7. Our inferior average players did that. I'll take more "average" like that.
