2) Was trying to draft a TOP5 talent at #16 with injury-risk a mistake?
3) Why does Montreal have SO MUCH defensive prospect talent, and STL have SO LITTLE?

Trying to trade for a TOP5 talent with known defensive and off-ice risk and giving up a proven young winger to take that roulette spin.
Reporters don’t ask these questions because they’re leading and nonsensical. No, Jiricek wasn’t expected to be elite. If he was, he would’ve gone top-5, not 16th. As for if it was a mistake, it’s been 1 year. He just turned 19 a little over a month ago. You make it sound like a forgone conclusion he’s the next Rundblad or Schmaltz. And Montreal has more top defensive prospects because they used more of their draft picks on them lately. The Blues used more of theirs on forwards. The two teams swapped a d-man for a comparable forward as they both dealt from a position of strength. It’s as simple as that yet you’ve once again found a way to turn it into some grand conspiracy and another “fault” of Army’s. The shtick has gotten old.
So the team that has drafted all defense lately also has Demidov at the gate.

Haven't you noticed it's the BAD teams that get top-5 picks, with rare exceptions? I'd rather follow a GOOD team playing good hockey, getting into the playoffs. You are advocating for the Blues to become a BAD team. Over Army's tenure with the Blues he's in the top-5 in WINS, not draft position. No, the ranking lists do not matter. We've recently been treated to a Stanley Cup and a 300-plus goal 109 point team, and the current team is very compelling. The key is TEAM, not any individual. Know why? It's a team sport.
Haven't you noticed that Florida and Edmonton and Dallas have 2 TOP5 picks on their team? Are they BAD teams?
Haven't you noticed that every playoff team last year had at least 1 TOP5 pick--except the Blues?
Haven't you noticed that there is very little difference in win % between GOOD and BAD teams in the regular season? The worst teams win at 40% and the best teams win at 55%. I don't consider that a major difference.
I want to watch elite players on my team. That matters to me every game and every day of the year. Why should.my city be nothing but a band of non-descript, average players?
My #1 question for you... Why should St Louis be the ONLY TEAM IN THE NHL with no elite talent?

I've followed the Blues since their inception, it is quite probable that I've experienced many more of the ups and downs of being a fan of this team than you have, if you are really a fan, and yet through all the dire circumstances that befell this team I've remained a fan. Apparently, I can appreciate a lot of things you refuse to comprehend. I do not care what you want, it's not about you or scratching your peculiar itch, it's about following this team and the sport. Arizona is a terrible example because they were broke - Buffalo does draft well but trade away all of their talent for cacca.
San Jose is going to he good eventually and I think the Hawks will he competing before the sharks based on better defense and goalies.

How would you handle this team if you were the GM? Should they tank heading into this season? Trade everyone over 25 for picks right now to force a rebuild?

True - Parayko has some of the worst instincts possible when he was a rookie.
Just reading the Montreal forum during the trade recently seems to paint a picture of him being offense only.

Do you see a Federko, Hull, or Pronger? How about a Berenson, Plager, or Hall?
Replacing players with "average" players boosted the team to a record winning streak and playoff appearance where they totally shellacked Mr. Hart/Vezina in St. Louis and took his President's Trophy team to double overtime in game 7. Our inferior average players did that. I'll take more "average" like that.
