Mailloux

Post by theograce »

At his ceiling and stylistically who does he compare to? Bouchard?

I was hoping he could fight a bit, but it seems some smaller guys had their way with him.

Why does that matter?
Did Petro win any fights during his career?
Oh wait, he played his entire career and was never in a fight.
Winning a fight isn’t the end all for a player, but having the heart to show up and fight is IMO.
Toughness is not what people should worry about when it comes to Mailloux.
Defensive awareness and overall hockey IQ is number 1 on the list with his ability to learn from his mistakes almost as important.

Because it’s nice to have in your top 4. Nobody is saying it’s pivotal. Paying on his belly unprotected isn’t the best though

He'll have to develop more to become physically and defensively reliable. All reports say he just isn't there yet.

But all reports also suggest he might already be offensively exceptional. And since we've got plenty of defensive strength from Parayko, Fowler, Broberg and Faulk... the guys that will surround Mallioux, its kinda the perfect situation for him to develop in.

But if ends up just being Jeff Brown, I'll take it.

It's hilarious, i think the Bot is broken. IT just said a defensive player playing on their belly is bad. IT HAS to be searching for interaction at this point....

That being said, Mailloux was picked up in the hopes of adding a lengthy top end defensemen. He wouldn't be available if he was some stud defensive minded player. But he's an AHL 2 time all star. Not much else he can prove at his age to get a bottom pairing shot. Let the kid play, see what he's got. His offensive game allows for situational play at the very least. If he settles in, it is the perfect boom or bust scenario. Lindstein is supposed to be the defensive star we have coming thru.

Just to remind everyone, all I ever see is "it takes a lot of time for defensemen to develop" and we are throwing stones at a 22 year old. If his game isn't there defensively, not a big deal. If it doesn't develop by the time hes 25=27, then that's a problem.

Mailloux has no issues dropping the gloves Im predicting a physical, highly skilled fan favorite type of player. The question in my mind is when? This season, next season? Remains to be seen

We'll see.

On the positive side I'd love to see him come in and do something like Harley did with Dallas but likely not as strong defensively to start off.

The guy can skate and he has size.....there's no reason he can't be coached up and leashed to become solid behind the blue line and still provide some scoring punch on the other end which he loves.

He has clear offensive skills and a bomb of a shot. Where he’s clearly lacking is in his defensive play but he’s been making strides there too. But he’s also 6’3”, 215 lbs and plays with an edge. The hope is he can improve enough defensively for the offensive talent to be a real weapon.

I expect some definite growing pains this season but he’s should be solid. From an organizational strengths and weaknesses standpoint, I like the trade. I didn’t at first but I’ve come around on it. Just hope fans give him some time to grow and learn how to properly play D at the NHL level and there’s not a new thread every time Bolduc scores a point.

It’s a little different when someone is angry and actively punching your head.
