So we are all in on a guy whos had one outstanding season? That season is an outlier vs last yr aside from a 50pt season. If you know me i trust Army and co. but does anyone else feel like there is at least a tangible amount of risk here?

Yes.

Trades are inherently risky. There is a also risk in NOT making a trade, yet often the best trades are the ones that aren't made. Risk.

The issues here are the projections of productivity for each player AND the synergy they create within the target teams. How much longer does Kyrou project to be a top-6 30-40 goal scorer and will he sustain viability at ES? The decision point on him, contractually, is forced to right now. Can Dobson be more for the Blues than just an offensive defenseman?

Some worry about replacing Kyrou's offense. It is a legitimate concern, he can create a goal from nothing, but I would remind everyone the Blues are reative well stocked with wing prospects, he can be backfilled successfully if additional offensive comes from the young wingers and defense.

It seems to me the big questions are (1) is Dobson another Boumeester-like opportunity, and (2) can the Blues afford the cost of acquiring and paying him? He would have to come extended.

Oh, as for Karlsson, I acknowledge he's been an offensive force. IMHO he's one of the most overrated defensemen I've ever seen. MacInnis he is not.

Yes. There is risk. When talking about upper end players it's important to be right in your assessment. Broberg was a bit of a risk also. At the time that DA signed Kyrou to his current contract ... that was a risk. Signing Krug was a risk also. We are hoping the Blues/DA/Steen are right more often than wrong. If a Kyrou for Dobson type of trade happens, both teams are taking a risk. I am for that hypothetical move. But I might be wrong.
Now I see that Dawg responded similarly. Oh well.

He will recover from that. I fear the Blues will be losing some good players like Kyrou and/or Bolduc, but this makes sense. If we lose both of them, I think we will be getting more back than just Dobson. I think Kyrou for Dobson straight up is fair.
Respectfully I disagree. Kyrou is worth way more than just a defenseman
He’s not just a defenseman. He put up 70 points in a season.
So does Kyrou. I find it funny that some people are all up in arms over a forward that may have defensive shortcomings but are perfectly happy with a defenseman with the same problem.
I find it funny that some people don’t realize a dman that can put up 70 points is much more rare than a forward that can. Dobson is also a good defensively per metrics.
It is, but the cost is prohibitive. Do you really want to pay him that much? He’s just another Karlsson
1. Dobson is not Karlsson. He plays a good defensive game also.
2. Karlsson in his prime won 3 Norris trophies and lead the Senators to the Stanley Cup. Let's not pretend that Kyrou has or ever will have that kind of value.
Huh? Fact check.
He did win three Norris Trophies and finished second once, as well.
He led Ottawa to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Stanley cup finals. They didn't win. Sorry if that's what you're fact checking. I forgot a word - my bad

He’s a 20+ minute defenseman who can put up 70+ points in a season, and his hockey IQ is well above Kyrou’s. If we add Dobson, we’re looking at arguably the best defensive core in the Western Conference. As for Kyrou’s 36 goals—those are replaceable. Other teams have managed it, and the Blues have prospects in the pipeline who are more than capable. If the organization didn’t believe in these kids, they wouldn’t have drafted them in the first place.

If we're getting rid of Kyrou, it will open a spot for Bolduc (playing off wing) in the top 6. A Holloway-Schenn-Bolduc line could see Bolduc netting 25+ goals and that line playing a more physical, forecheck style than they can with Kyrou out there. It's not a bad risk to take if it's netting you a young RD in return.

If the first is in play I would guess Kyrou is staying, but add a defensemen and another value player. 1st, faulk or leddy, and one of bolduc, neighbors, prospect.

Well this is all probably moot because per Friedman who is prob the most trust worthy of all the rumor mongers, Dobson wants to play in the Eastern Conference. So it may be more him not wanting the Blues than the Blues wanting him.

That might even be an understatement. Fowler would be the runt of the top-4.

He can have a preference all he wants, he has no decision in it.

He'll be an RFA so the only leverage he has is to sign a contract.

He isn't going to get an offer sheet as no one is giving up 2 1sts, 2nd, 3rd rounder or 4 1sts for him.

Now he doesn't have to sign a long term contract, but the more you put off a long term extension the longer bad things can happen and you can hurt your odds.

If the Blues give an offer that the Islanders accept, it would absolutely be in his best interest to sign a minimum 2 year deal if not a 4 year deal, get to UFA and then he can go back to the Eastern conference if he wants.

Feel like you don't hear conference preference to often....kind of interesting. Every location is a plan ride away from home essentially.

I bet Army/cash could smooth out that concern.

In another thread on a different forum someone mentioned that Strickland just sent a tweet saying that it's down to Montreal and Columbus for Dobson.

Islanders Dman Noah Dobson is indeed staying in the Eastern Conference and has informed interested teams.
