Re: Report: Habs, Blues among teams in trade talks for Islanders' Dobson
So he's RFA July 1 2025. Say he goes to arbitration and gets a 1 year deal with whoever holds his rights for 25-26. What is his status July 1 2026? Still RFA or UFA?
Re: Report: Habs, Blues among teams in trade talks for Islanders' Dobson
So does Kyrou. I find it funny that some people are all up in arms over a forward that may have defensive shortcomings but are perfectly happy with a defenseman with the same problem.noted wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 19:59 pmHe’s not just a defenseman. I think he would be a nice get and fit in the organizational plan. I'm not worried about his +/- or his production drop off. He will recover from that. I fear the Blues will be losing some good players like Kyrou and/or Bolduc, but this makes sense. If we lose both of them, I think we will be getting more back than just Dobson. I think Kyrou for Dobson straight up is fair.

I find it funny that some people don’t realize a dman that can put up 70 points is much more rare than a forward that can. Dobson is also a good defensively per metrics.netboy65 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025 02:42 amSo does Kyrou. So what's the plan to replace the 40 goals we lose by trading kyrou? This team needs to become more dynamic, not less. Not a fan of this.

Re: Report: Habs, Blues among teams in trade talks for Islanders' Dobson
I agree that I'd hate to lose Kyrou. However, you are replacing his points with a defenseman. All of a sudden you have a very stout scoring defense core. You somewhat figure that over the next couple of seasons the young forwards that are here and the ones that are almost here are taking the next steps. Although you'd miss Kyrou you are replacing him with Snuggs and possibly Dvorsky.MizTruBlueLuvzU wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025 05:47 am So what's the plan to replace the 40 goals we lose by trading kyrou? It is, but the cost is prohibitive. Do you really want to pay him that much? Snuggerud played 7 games last year. He’s Kyrou’s replacement.MizTruBlueLuvzU wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025 05:47 am So what's the plan to replace the 40 goals we lose by trading kyrou? This team needs to become more dynamic, not less. Not a fan of this.
If we trade Kyrou I think it will actually hurt our 3rd line more than our top 6 because we would have to move up Neighbours or Bolduc to the 2nd line. The 3rd line would then be 2 good players short.
Holloway-Thomas-Buchnevich
Neighbours-Schenn-Snuggerud
Fowler-Parayko
Broberg-Dobson
Leddy-Faulk
Doubtful we can afford all 6 but that would be a helluva a d-men group.
Tucker fills in when needed.
I don't feel you can win a Cup with a shrinking violet in your top 6.
Look at the teams that win.
They have big d-men even if they're not super physical and forwards willing to take hits to make plays and go to the front of the net to score.
6 months ago if someone brought up if we should trade Kyrou for Seth Jones, they would have been laughed off the forum.
Call Bill Zito now and ask him for Jones. You'll hear a click.
It's all about getting big d-men that are mobile and/or physical.
Perhaps more importantly it's about having them slotted correctly on your team.
Jones isn't the type of player to lead a d-men group as his play in Chicago proved. However, since Florida has two other d-men that are #2 types like Forsling and Ekblad, a player like Jones can focus on playing a solid all around game instead of worrying about being the man. Jones ended up getting the most ice time on a Cup winning team. Not many would have predicted that.
Dobson at 25 years old would be a great get.

Do you think he will lead the team in plus minus?

The answer is no.
Maybe in 5 years.
Re: Report: Habs, Blues among teams in trade talks for Islanders' Dobson
Dobson also is shown to join the offense frequently and makes smart decisions when he does so. Certainly fits with Monty's game plan.Tony Palazzolo wrote: ↑27 Jun 2025 05:59 amI agree that I'd hate to lose Kyrou. However, you are replacing his points with a defenseman. It isn't going to take him 5 years though. With his shot and Thomas' passing he'll be hitting the 30 goal mark pretty quickly.

2. Karlsson in his prime won 3 Norris trophies and lead the Senators to the Stanley Cup. Let's not pretend that Kyrou has or ever will have that kind of value.

Dobson can help generate offense.
There’s definitely a chasm on this forum between those that realize how difficult it is to acquire a big, young RHD that can play in all situations vs. a one dimensional scoring winger.
It’s fun to debate but I’ll be floored (and thrilled) if NY takes Kyrou.
