I would have been interested in seeing what Frederic had to offer, but he wasn't the move I would have been excited about as a Blues fan. Blues need someone who can drop Schenn down to the 3rd line or they need to stay pat and let the young movement matriculate. Frederic would have just been another filler in that bottom 6 that is getting ever more crowded by the day. If Blues would have been 7x4 I would have not been a happy guys. 5x3 would have even been a stretch. Blues need to be in on a 3 year older guy contract like a Tavares, or make a trade for a young difference maker.

This contract really starts to highlight the goofiness that is the Oilers front office. How does Holloway get away when he was open to signing like a 2.3 or whatever contract bridge deal, and they extend a Frederic. I get it today is different than last August, but WOOF.

Probably better than Skinner.
I couldn’t have set you up better if I tried! Lol

Well it was Bowman who let Holloway and Broberg go, but he was painted into a corner by the signings of guys like Skinner as a UFA before he got there.

That what I was referencing. The decision was essentially already made before Bowman got there. He was only in the chair for like a week.

But it was his call to at least not match Holloway.... some how...any how. I get Bro's bigger hit.

Right the Holloway decision was VERY surprising last season before we saw the player he could be. They even moved out players like Ceci to have the ability to cover Holloway’s 2.3M. I wonder if the extra 3rd rounder and prospect Fischer was for EDM to not sign Holloway.

that was the back and forth that bowman did to threaten Army. He might not have signed either Broberg or Holloway, but he made it a sure thing he wouldn't by getting that extra kick. By offering both Army at the very least made it a decision for the Oilers to decide who was worth more to them. Most accounts last year had Broberg as the more valuable player over Holloway. That obviously flipped this season and now it's more of an even discussion.

I know this guy isn’t very well liked here, but Eckland on hockeybuzz has already stated the plan is to trade McDavid. He seems to think LA is the destination.
gretzky trade part deux.. makes sense since Drai is already signed

still.. hard to part ways with that kind of talent
For sure it is. But they still won in 1989. And if they can keep the other top talent and put additional on the table and some more in the pantry, they can still be a highly competitive team. The question is: Does the GM have what it takes?
Correction, I meant to say 1990 that the Oilers won again, NOT 1989.
And further in response to another commenter re comparing to that 1990 SC champion team, the additional on the table HAS to include a better goalie.

I was shocked Bowman was dumb enough to go 8 years. This signing reminds me when they overpaid for Lucic. And couldn't wait to get rid of him halfway through the deal.

The Oilers goaltending dried up as the supply of cocaine in the locker room dried up.

That's the only way any decent goaltender plays in Edmonton, coked up.
