This assumes the big money guys have not the smarts we do. I’d say they do. Plus the money.
Even if we are smart we compete against just as smart.

Teams like the Rays, Guardians, and Brewers (all typically in the bottom 1/3 in ML payroll) have shown an ability to outperform their payrolls by just being smarter than everyone else. The Cardinals (typically a middle 1/3 in ML payroll team) need to be smart like those teams, with the addition of having somewhat more payroll muscle to use.

The money will be there. With Bloom, I think we are as smart as most.

If Mo is in charge, then he will sit around at the deadline with his thumb up his (donkey). That lazy, do-nothing putz will hope for the best.
You're going to get 'effing' yelled at by the front office (donkey) kissers!
Haha. Yeah, I probably will. It won't be the first time the Mo crowd gets upset with me.

First he ask what eff means, then he keeps bumping it for the multi generations to get more opportunity to see ................... and probably most laugh at.
I just try an appreciate the humor of it all.
You are right. I'm probably being a little hypocritical ragging on Cranny. So how about this. Cranny relax and listen to this song whenever people bother you.
Shucks, 2ninr. I’m just a guy who appreciates very much the PD having a free Cards Talk forum for all Cardinal fans to enjoy ant no cost. And the fact that they also lay out posting rules for the benefit of all. Rules that that are designed keep things friendly and in good taste.
Shut the eff up
That’s highly mature, Banner. LOL. Grow up.
No one likes a hall monitor. Why can’t you let the forum moderators do the moderating and save the constant high horse?
Let me ask you a question, Johnny. It someone bashes you in you face, do you run to others for help?
Huh? Not following your train of thought. I guess the answer is no, but I haven’t been in a fight since 9th grade so who knows.
Are you supposed to be the guy getting punched in the face in that scenario? I’m confused

If a respectable return presents itself, I’d still move Helsley regardless of the standings.
The CORRECT BASBEBALL DECISION is to extend Helsley for another 4 years sometime in the next 30 days.
20 years ago, I would've agreed with you. However, the number of closers who throw 100+ mph that enjoy long careers are becoming fewer and fewer. Reliever volatility is real and if the Cardinals can get close to a Chapman-like return for Helsley, they'd be crazy not to do it.
Offer 4 year extension.
17M a year, with 3M deferred annually and payable beginning in 2030.
5th year team option with 2M buyout.
Player opt out after year one and two.
He would sign it.
And it would be a smart move for STL.
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct.
I'd love that for us, but I think that's a bit too team-friendly.

I think the anti-Mo sentiment on here has tainted your rationale. His Red Sox teams finished last 3 times and he left before his 4th season was over. So are the Sox thriving? No.
Once the SP staff loses Matz, Miles, Fedde and RP Helsley we will be counting on rookies for next year.

Your facts sustain your argument. I’m no match for them. I have a thought that a capable human in the right environment can thrive. Now that he has experience, I expect better results. We needed an over haul. We were stale.
