Welcome Alex and you're spot on, BDWJr crying "poor mouth" and slashing payroll w/o using it to add players this season is a joke.
I guess you don’t see the situation, rock. Cable revenue is down, attendance is down, a big time strike is looming, and you want to give your new POBO as clean a slate as possible going into 2026 (as few long term contracts as possible).
Attendance is down because fans know the franchise is not being run well and it is run by people who put winning as a lessor priority. They gettheir s**t together and you will have better attendance and more revenue overall.
I mean literally they were borderline playoffs in 2018 and Hamels was available for a song. Cubs grabbed him and slipped into the playoffs. We didn't and then just barely missed. His price was 4M for the balance of the season. You make the playoffs and you make that money back easily.
They fire Matheny and said,
“In some places a winning record, or even .500, is even acceptable. Not with this city, not with this franchise, not with its history, and not with the fans."
Then they turn around and fire his successor who was a better coach and replace him with Oli who proceeds to eventually crash the team in 2023 at 71-91 and is somehow still employed.
Fans don't want to shell out coin for a team run poorly by Mozaliek.

Attendance is down: self-inflicted.
POBO clean slate: self-inflicted, thanks to bad contracts and the appalling desire to sacrifice 2025 to the John Mozeliak Farewell Tour
Cable revenue down: partially self-inflicted. Sure, lots of people cut the cord, but would they if the team was winning and fun to watch?
You want to go out and sign some free agents to multi-year contracts when you're handing the reins over to a new
boss next season? Not going to happen.
That’s why you hand the reins to a new boss after LAST season, not punt on an entire year out of loyalty to one person.
net profit of the team is 34 million dollars?..that is less than some players make guaranteed for 15 yrs..if you dont like the profit motive what can I say?...sports is the only business where consumers (buzz) and moan that the owners make a profit...basically to some owners it is a toy to play with and be involved with and if they break even fine...maybe even lose a bit of money...no other business runs like this...the increased value of franchises is what keeps this train rolling but if you were to buy a franchise today you cannot assume appreciation and have to run it as a business unless of course you are worth 50 billion dollars

What a fallacious and disingenuous argument, Cranny. Bloom is already employed by Skinflint Bill. Bloom also has the ability to communicate. He and Bill could have collaborated to make sure the Cards got some new players and didn’t have a crummy season for the third year in a row. Why do you think you can tell us Moe has to be gone before the Cards can worry about the future? Surely, you don’t believe that. That’s completely illogical. Come up with some better stuff, dude.
Worry about the future, Rojo? The Cardinals know that the key to a successful future lies in the prospects and development process in the minor league system. Bloom was successful in that area at Tampa and Boston. Cerfolio was successful in that area with Cleveland. That's where they're spending their time. Bloom will kick it into high gear at the major league level when he takes over as POBO. But first things first.
Cranny
Who held the gun to the head BDW/MO on these decisions?
Carp-extending him early as he got old when no one else was going to pay him
Waino/Yadi-these auto 1yr renews for 10-12mil each for some sort of nostalgia old guy jersey in dugout that added NOTHING to the team
Fowler- over pay for mediocrity
A. Miller 3yr/13mil EACH for a known washed up LHRP
Hiring a no name 35 yr old to manage ST. Louis Cardinals with a DUKE pitching coach
I was pounding the table when they signed Contreras as to WHY when they had a C in waiting with Herrera the waste 18mil/yr???
So this crew wastes MILLIONS spends ZERO on minors then cries poor when the team goes to chit
As many have stated before…..SELF INFLICTED….now Cards fans don’t want to give them more $$$……POOR DEWITTS….be better Stewards of the team

Come on, Cranny. If they "know that the key to a successful future lies in the prospects and development process in the minor league system," why didn't they know that the past several years when they were slashing minor league budgets and cutting instructors and not building pitching labs? Why is it NOW you're all of a sudden convinced they found Jesus on this stuff? You can't have it both ways.
"Bloom will kick it into high gear...but first things first.." Yeah -- gotta make sure we don't disrespect Mo. If they had reassigned him after last year, I'd be right on the train with you. But this is a loyalty tour, and it's embarrasing.

If you are going to tell an American business how to run the company and how much profit it should make and they don't listen to your sage advice, you might consider spending discretionary dollars elsewhere.
LOT of people doing that on Clark Street these days…

Yeah, but just wait until that sage American businessman and his astute POBO roll out the bobble heads. People will come. Most definitely, people will come…

Just wasted time running through this thread. So ashamed! Some people spend a lot of time worrying about other people's money. The choice is simple-if you don't like the product, you don't buy it. If you can't let it go, then put together an offer that Bill won't refuse. Obviously, if he is so focused only on his wallet and the team is worth so much, then put a deal together and make an offer. If you are judging him correctly, he will take it without even blinking.

Ah yes, the “shut up and take what you’re given” routine. Have you looked at the stands lately? A lot of people don’t like the product. That should be concerning to everyone.
Very simple question
I BDW isn’t making $$ like Cranny and minions defend….
And BDW really doesn’t care about winning or can no longer afford to win
Why would he want to continue owning the team???

LOL. Funny.
Well whats the answer? You claim he’s not making money, you claim he can’t compete with big markets, he doesn’t appear to have the desire to do what it takes to put the team in a strong position to go deep in playoffs. So why not just take his extraordinary appreciation and move on?

I didn’t say the members of the LLC don’t share in profits. They might. It’s a private company, so it’s hard to tell. And no, the Cardinals obviously can’t sign players to huge FA contracts. They have to rely on the system. That’s a given.

The loyalty tour included Gary Laroque. He had a lot of success over the years with both the Mets and the Cardinals, but it was time to modernize with younger people.

If so, then why did they let the minor league system go to hell the past 10 years or so? They didn’t feed the golden goose for years and you can still support these morons? They used the fans’ wallets for an annuity until it got so bad they had to do something (even the dumb eventually wake up).
