“what if I get wet?” sounds wayyyyyyy better on the BFIB reputation as opposed to “we’re starting to get sick of the complacency” when explaining why the opening day weekend crowd was unimpressive……..

Wow. Looks like Pittsburgh or Oakland.
We must be near rock bottom at this point
As long as team keeps Winning, couldn't care if they were playing to an Entirely Empty Stadium.
Fans were disappointed by the lack of offseason movement and didn't want to throw down big money right away.
Winning solves all.
Cards keep playing good baseball, Busch will be packed by late April.
And tickets can be bought instantly.

April/May are always tough draws, especially during the week when the kiddies are in school + the weather can be nasty.

I would think BDWJr is elated w/ a 35,010 average this weekend (especially given Sunday's forecast), #8 in MLB.Bully4you wrote: ↑31 Mar 2025 10:46 amYes, the weather is a factor.rockondlouie wrote: ↑31 Mar 2025 10:45 am BTW

They are down 6,363 yoy. MLB in general is UP 1,114. The only team with a bigger decrease than the Cardinals are the Rays, who are playing in a minor league park compared to a MLB park last year. They had a game under 30,000 over the weekend. They didn’t have a game under 30,000 at home last year until mid August when it was clear they weren’t contending, outside of the game against SF in Alabama.rockondlouie wrote: ↑31 Mar 2025 10:49 amI would think BDWJr is elated a/35,010 average this weekend (especially given Sunday's forecast), #8 in MLB.Bully4you wrote: ↑31 Mar 2025 10:46 amYes, the weather is a factor.rockondlouie wrote: ↑31 Mar 2025 10:45 am BTW

I don’t think he’s that “elated” or that it’s good. Middle of the pack would be their worst attendance rank in decades. I think the last time they were outside of the top 10 in a full year was like the early 90s.

The Cards will be good to draw over 24K tonight. Monday night game in March, school night, temps dropping from low 50s to high 40s during game, a rather dull AL team on the schedule. Folks might try to make it about Dewitt and Mo and declining fan interest, but it will be more about the circumstances I mentioned.

Sunday was suppose to be a Grade 3 nasty weather day that may have kept quite a few away + the fact that other than P. I saw crowds when at the games last August/September that were well under 20,000, I'd bet BDWJr was indeed elated w/35,010 average given he could've been looking at way lower w/ the weather and offseason pessimism/inaction.
Re: Attendance
The average is helped significantly by Opening day though. The less than 30,000 was a historically low total. The Cardinals hadn’t had a sub 30,000 game in March/April in Busch III until yesterday. It has everything to do with the offseason and pessimism towards the ownership/team. The rest of the “excuses” don’t fly when I’m sure there have been other bad weather days in April over the last 20 years.rockondlouie wrote: ↑31 Mar 2025 10:59 amSunday was suppose to be a Grade 3 nasty weather day that may have kept quite a few away + the fact that other than P. Winning can change things, but it will take a little time. If they don’t win, they are in for as bad as anyone expected IMO…and maybe worse.

Most realize it's not the pool smaller markets deal in true. But does it underscore

If they win and keep playing fun, crisp, clean baseball... they will draw.
(bleep) weather and the incoming season expectations will deal a blow to the early season attendance.

Right now of the 16 teams with a home game, we have the biggest decrease yoy per game (-6,363) outside of TB.
And if that pace kept for us, it would put our attendance at 2.36 million for the season. And if everything else stayed the same that puts us around 17th in the game.
In other words ownership better hope the team keeps playing like they have or they could be looking at a bottom half team in attendance.
So sad.
By the way, Red, I always step forward with the things "I like" that the Cardinals are doing, and the things "I don't care for".
I don't have a "love for ownership". but I do appreciate some of the Cardinals best baseball in their history this century - with 2 world titles, 3 World Series appearances, and only two losing seasons. Where do the Cardinals rank in regular season wins and playoff wins this century - 3rd perhaps? Top 10%?
