What happens now with the tv deal?
I contend they did themselves no favors with the $20 a month fee and would be better off with a deal across multiple providers that is part of the basic package so more people can watch. More people watching might translate into more interest in the team and boost attendance.

I agree. Back in the day a game was on tv. If nothing more than back up noise. But it stilll built fanmanship.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 07:24 am I contend they did themselves no favors with the $20 a month fee and would be better off with a deal across multiple providers that is part of the basic package so more people can watch. Look at the Braves. They were on TNT- Americas team.

Phil Wrigley gave WGN the Cubs games for free and developed a national following in the early days of cable.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 07:31 amI agree. Back in the day a game was on tv. Fees are needed to be paid for access.

Maybe KPLR should be considered. It worked for WGN Cubs and TBS Braves as independent carriers. Hopefully it would be made available outside the STL area.

That was long ago. It won't work now. The cubs are on Marquee and the Braves are on FanDuel South.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 08:40 am Maybe KPLR should be considered. It worked for WGN Cubs and TBS Braves as independent carriers. Hopefully it would be made available outside the STL area.

T-Mobile provides customers the MLB app for free. You can watch all the MLB teams there.

My brother lived up that way in the mid '70s. It was amazing to this high school kid that the Cubs were on WGN every day.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 08:10 amPhil Wrigley gave WGN the Cubs games for free and developed a national following in the early days of cable.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 07:31 amI agree. Then a few years later when cable TV made to our downstate town, we had WGN and the Cubs games too. Not that we availed ourselves unless the Cardinals were involved.
