What's the most $$ Cardinals would pay to move Arenado ?

Post by ramfandan »

To get a chance to trade Nolan Arenado , the Cardinals will have to eat plenty of his remaining dollars.
The more they eat , the better the return they get in prospects.
They could eat a minimal and receive very little in return too. So two ways they can go in getting Arenado out of St. Louis .

However much he's owed over the rest of his contract... $1 dollar less than that.

Not enough to enhance his trade value. Getting him out of the lineup has great value in its own. It allows some flexibility for a roster deep with infielders.

The nice thing for Arenado is that he gets his full contract paid . For him , it probably comes down to whether he wants to go right now or accept something at the Winter Trade meetings. I highly doubt he will want to return in 2026 . Just my opinion.

It's either Mo trading him today or Bloom dealing him in December is how I see it . Feel he will waive his NTC either way .

If they did that, he should be worth less than $10M/yr to another team.* Heck, Hayes is around that much per year for 4 more years and he's a worse hitter( NA= 84 wRC+ vs KH = 57 wRC+). Houston should get him for the Crawford boxes alone.

2026 - $27M but CO pays $5M and $6M deferred until 2032-2041, so that leaves a real PV of ~$19M
2027 - $15M
Total = ~$34M so if they pay $20M it's $7M/yr. Or so it seems.

I’m guessing BDW would be willing to eat no more than 10 bucks.

I've said BDWJr has to pickup $20M and expect little more than a lotto ticket return.

No it doesn't. We don't have someone who can produce at Nolan's '22 levels which is what we need. And Gorman/Saggese et al still don't have the defense of Nolan even today.

Sign Suarez or find another outside option for 3b longterm, then we can trade him.

Suarez is gone. You apparently have not bought into letting the young guys play.

He's a FA in 2 months. Entirely young/homegrown teams don't win many pennants. And we are going to have a (bleep) ton of dry powder to sign a real MOTO bat. It needs to be spent over the winter.

I personally think they will continue to try to move him too no Avail. He’ll remain a 3rd baseman for the rest of his contract whike they countiue to build around him searching and developing other positions.

That’s fine but Nado is in the way either way.
