That's a 109-110 win pace. The Cardinals have never won that many games in a season.

Right and we didn’t, we won 100 games, although part of the reason it was “only” 100 games is a bad September. Went 15-16 in September/October, including 3-6 over the last 9.

The 2022 Dodgers won 111 games and didn't win the WS or even reach the WS. Baseball is funny like that.

They didn’t even win one playoff series, lost in 4 games to an 89 win Padres team.

Almost as bad as being swept in the 04 WS without ever leading a single inning in the four games.

well..”funny” is one word for it…

MLB has bastardized the playoffs….

It is now designed to name a champion, not to identify the best team….

To my knowledge, there has never been a barely .500 team win the title

.500 teams don’t even make the tournament…

I agree but expanded playoffs are good for the bottom line. So the owners go for that. Just like snuggling up to gambling which might ruin baseball a century after the Black Sox.

Losing in the first round (for your team) is better than winning the pennant?

I went to every home game in the 2004 playoffs other than game 4 of the WS. Games six and seven of the NLCS are two of the best games I've ever been to, they would have never happened if we lost 3-1 to the Dodgers in the first round. The ending of 2004 sucked, really really sucked, but that season and post-season was awesome up until that point (probably even up until game 2 or 3 of the WS).
