Byram vs Dobson
Sounds like both of these guys would be an improvement and fit our core age.
For the more knowledgeable, How do they compare? Style of play? Cost?

Re: Byram vs Dobson
We could use both or either.
Re: Byram vs Dobson
Both would be really big summer acquisitions. I feel like the Blues should pass.
Byram is a high skilled player with less than great advanced stats. He has a concussion history with the Avs. And he is on the move again. It feels to me like whatever he wants to make isn't really worth the risk. I fear he is a Torey Krug 2.0.
Dobson is another one I would pass on. Not that he isn't a great acquisition. Because he would cost a lot to get and cost a lot to keep. I don't think the asset cost would be worth the risk. Even at a one for one swap of Kyrou for Dobson.
I would rather the Blues partner with the Devils. I like Kyrou plus for Nemec and Mercer. Nemec to me is a much better pickup than Byram or Dobson.

Statistically, JK has been 100% consistent.dr0zombie wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:21 pm Both would be really big summer acquisitions. I feel like the Blues should pass.

Intangibly, he has vastly improved over time with room for upside in this aspect.
If the Blues move him, they need the same player circumstance in return....a solid, no risk player.

I like Nemec too. No to Byram. Maybe to Dobson.dr0zombie wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:21 pm Both would be really big summer acquisitions. I feel like the Blues should pass.

Re: Byram vs Dobson
Byram has a rough injury history and is smaller
We have Broberg, so I’m out on Byram

I am not on the side of trading Kyrou. He does seem to be the presumed asset for any trade involving an updated for the defense.dhsux wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:36 pmStatistically, JK has been 100% consistent.dr0zombie wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:21 pm Both would be really big summer acquisitions. Who is your choice for solid, no risk player?
Re: Byram vs Dobson
What makes you like Nemec more than Dobson? Or is it more the combo including Mercer (which I also like a lot)? Price tag on extending Dobson?dr0zombie wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:21 pm Both would be really big summer acquisitions. I feel like the Blues should pass.

I've identified these two proposals as possible and favorable: Kyrou for: Dobson+Pageau or Nemec+Mercer
I am leaning towards the latter, but I just don't know enough about Nemec. Fellow Slovak that Dvo likely knows...

I feel like the up side is better in Nemec+Mercer.zamadoo wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:45 pmWhat makes you like Nemec more than Dobson? Or is it more the combo including Mercer (which I also like a lot)? That said, Dobson would be a great asset. He will cost $8-9 mil for probably 8 years and that feels like he isn't quite there for that pay. But he would require we lock him down like our #1.
To be honest all of these trades are a lot of risk considering Kyrou will likely produce well for a solid 3-5 years. Kyrou is a much better asset than a lot of people here want to admit.

Re: Byram vs Dobson
The Blues need a young top 4 RHD. Kyrou's contract is really good bang for the buck especially moving forward as contracts inflate with the rising cap. Both of those things are true which elevates Kyrou's value as a trade chip or as a scorer who you keep in the fold.
Re: Byram vs Dobson
That's a great point. Kyrou's on a honey of a deal, his contract adds value to any trade.
Re: Byram vs Dobson
I think of it as who is our #1D going forward? Parayko or Fowler short-term perhaps. If we're not able to draft someone of that caliber and Dobson can reasonably fit the bill as at least a top-pair candidate, then (especially with his age) it seems like you have to really consider it.dr0zombie wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:54 pmI feel like the up side is better in Nemec+Mercer.zamadoo wrote: ↑26 Jun 2025 14:45 pmWhat makes you like Nemec more than Dobson? Then I question whether Nemec is that player. He was drafted as such. Why is NJ considering moving him?
Mercer's FO% has me concerned, but otherwise I see him as a potential fit as well.

I don't get why all of you want to trade the guy,
who led the team in goals,
was the team leader in plus minus.
and he led the team in playoff goals with 3,
for mediocre talent.
I'm grateful that you are not our G.M

Re: Byram vs Dobson
My pipe dream is Power, but that’s not happening, Big 6’3+ dmen, who are young, defensively sound, hard on their sticks, durable.
But I mean … every gm wants that

Re: Byram vs Dobson
Byram was one concussion away from retirement a couple of years ago. Good for him that he has stayed healthy since then, but that’s not a risk the Blues need.
