So with the current outfield situation. Is a platoon of Church and Saggese in LF about as good as any scenario? If not, what is your suggestion for LF if Herrera pans out at catcher?
nootbaar when healthy. Castellanos released today. Nobody wants to touch that clown
Where's the power in the outfield going to come from?
With all due respect.....you need to table the OF “power” concern for now.
First of all....how about we figure out:
Can Scott make enough contact and raise his OBP so his speed becomes a big factor?
Can Walker improve his plate discipline and become a more consistent hitter?
Can Noot stay healthy and FINALLY stop being a tease?
Is Church a player?
Does Herrera’s bat play better in LF?
Enough with the fixation on power.
What do YOU THINK?????
There is little upside to getting a temporary player IMO.
I'd much rather see how it plays out is bad as it may be.
Now if they find an higher upside player through a trade, all for it.
How about getting Mike Sirota from the Dodgers in a deal for Romero?
Around and around we go . . .
Per BTV,
Sirora: 22.1
Romero: 6.3
What else are you prepared to add to the package (that the Dodgers would actually want)? Keep in mind that trading valuable prospects and rostered players with several years of control is entirely counterproductive to the rebuild.
Doesn't Burleson's BTV approximate Sirota's? Too bad their ML club is so stacked as that could have been a good trade. The Cards need all the OF prospects they could get and Gorman or Herrera could have filled 1B.

Sirota: 22.1
Burleson: 17.8
It appears Burleson's BTV (i.e., estimated surplus value) went down after his arbitration agreement. It was 22.5 previously.

I thought this was a rebuild, test-the-kids, prepare for the lockout season?

That's why Church and Saggese might be platooned in LF at the start of the season. Especially, if Herrera starts the season at catcher. Saggese should get plenty ABs between DH, 3B (depending on how Gorman performs) and some outfield. Saggese could also fill in at 2B and SS occasionally.

He will clear waivers. No one wants his salary.
Phils are on the hook for his salary. He was DFAed. Whoever picks him up gets him for the ML minimum

Cardinals' recent history tells us that there will be an injury before OD and
a player that has a strong ST.
Without injury I expect that the goals of Herrera at catcher, Walker in the outfield, Scott/Church in CF and 4th guy,
Gorman at 3B, JJ at 2B will get the priority run time. That time may take a while, 4-8 weeks depending
on the amount of struggles and the player.
The RH bat may indeed be a Saggese, Valazquez, Ramos, or Fermin at this time.
Whoever rakes for 6-7 weeks. Imagine 6+ HR's may win a roster spot for that one reason.
After that the shuffle might be on, and little will surprise me except being fully healthy.

When will the consensus change on CT and complain we should have addressed the OF in offseason? I think by June most will criticize Bloom for being inactive in this area. The OF is going to be awful.

No. I don’t think it’s realistic. You need to think younger and cost controlled.
Next. We are attempting to solve the outfield mess. With youth. Takes time. More than an off-season.
That’s the trick. Waiting
Casteilanos would be a one year fix for an outfield that needs help.
WHAT??? He's the worst outfielder in the major leagues (an unheard of -90!! career DRS). That's why he's only a DH and the Phillies had to release him. Do you even watch games??

And not the leadership style we are looking for.
