I keep seeing post after post complaining about the Cards not bringing up Weatherholt for a cup of coffee this year. I don’t think many of you have any understanding of the reasons why he isn’t being brought up. He obviously has done everything to prove that he deserves an opportunity, but Mo and or Bloom are doing the smart thing here. (I am no fan of Mo)

Currently he isn’t on the 40 man roster, and because of his status he isn’t eligible for the rule 5 draft and doesn’t need to be protected. If he is brought up to the majors, he will have to be added to the 40 man which will take another spot that the cards could use to protect another player from being picked off their roster through the rule 5 draft.

Also by not starting his service time until opening day they can actually push back his first year of arbitration until 2029. Saving the cards some payroll down the line. If they delay his debut until mid April, which I think they will, he won’t be eligible for arbitration until 2030 and pushes his free agency back an additional year. After 2032 season.

My money is on seeing JJ sometime in mid April of 2026.

I think this would be the smartest move the front office could make.

What do your old pals Robert M. Shelton and Wally Butterworth's Red Sox scout cousin have to say about Saggese?
Mort, wasn’t it “Wrestler Guy Gary” who was those persona? I always thought it was. I don’t think Shady is Wrestler Guy.

I, however, claim the right to be incorrect!
he's not Gary. But he welcomed Gary and his Racists handles. He even made one himself, and made the mistake of forgetting to switch accounts one time in a convo with himself.

He never condemned Gary when asked to. Same with Cranny...funny when Toby called him "Klanny"
Gary was the gay sand volleyball guy, the [ash]-less chaps guy, the multi-handle, overtly racist clown that claimed at times to a) know a scout with the Red Sox, b) actually BE a scout with the Red Sox, and at times c) be a roving scout for the Red Sox and others. Shady is just a sad little fellow who latches onto every minor league whiz-bang coming along like they are the next Mickey Mantle.

Very good info!
I am not that well versed on the 40 man roster rules and the rule 5 draft.
So thanks!
As for me....I am psyched to see Wetherholt play and I figure when he DOES come up he will be a regular and here to stay!
That being said he is not going to move the needle enough for the Cards this season.
They could sneak in as the third Wild Card but their chances of making any kind of run are remote.
In the meantime...PT needs to a bunch of others prior to the offseason.
Walker- keep or trade?
Gorman- keep or trade?
Herrera- can he handle LF?
Arenado- is he healthy? That affects ability to trade him!
Saggese- keep or trade?
Etc etc etc

Having JJ play this year could limit PT for the others listed above!
