Then why did he sprint AFTER the infielder bobbled the play?
Running 90 feet over 3 seconds is dangerous to his health, but running 45 feet for 1.5 seconds is not?
The "cover story" is complete nonsense.
Winn blew it and The Marmot didn't have the integrity to say so.
Neither did the broadcasters.

I'll give you credit, nobody doubles down on stupid like you do
If Winn has been ordered to jog to 1b as the broadcast team stated Marmol claimed, why did he suddenly sprint when the infielder bobbled the game?
We both know why - though you are not honest enough to admit it.
Winn's own behavior proves he recognized his lazy blunder.
And later, the manager and broadcast team covered for him.
That's just purely instinct.
Triple down

When the play happened I thought....ooops that’s embarrassing and might pay dividends long term as it thankfully didn’t cost them a win.
As for Marmol’s explanation it was lame. But he had to say something and didn’t want to throw his player under the bus as he has done in the past!
The announcers? That was lame also. Funny....when it happened they were critical of Winn.
Winn actually came up big after the play.
Move on!

and of course cant admit there is about an 80 percent speed that could target on obvious out which you often see... not dogging it but just a lower end moderate sprint. If you get hurt going 80 percent, you were going to go down very soon regardless. And how is 80 percent in a direction you know you are going to go out of the box just so dangerou, but 5 minutes later having to go full tilt either direction on defense is what???

Melville wrote: 22 Jun 2025 07:48 am During the broadcast yesterday, all 3 members of the broadcast team discussed and supported Winn jogging lazily to 1B during the prior game - something he has done repeatedly.
They quoted The Marmot as claiming Winn was merely following the orders of the coaching staff, essentially saying the staff wants him to jog to 1B (and take other plays off as well) because they rely on him so heavily.
According to the reporting, because he plays so many innings, because the season is long, because it is hot, because they want him to protect his lower body, he has been told to save his energy, and to "save his bullets" for when needed.
Two points.
It is disgusting that the broadcasters know full well this is complete nonsense and that Winn has been given no such instruction - and not only reported it but defended it as being smart and necessary.
Flat out telling the audience something they did not believe; something antithetical to how the game should be played.
Zero integrity.
Two, neither Marmol nor the staff have told Winn any such thing.
It is obvious The Marmot anticipated the question and rather than telling the truth ("Winn's lack of effort was not acceptable and we have talked about that"), he had devised a long, detailed, nonsensical story designed to protect his player from criticism.
Just the latest in an unending list of examples as to why the man should be fired.
I saw Pujols jog to 1B. I saw Molina jog to 1B.

I'm not a fan of anyone jogging. However, I can tolerate 95% when you are fairly certain you will be out at 1B.

95% does not pose an injury risk but also looks like hustling and leaves you just a step behind 100%.

For catchers, I'm good with 80-90%.

I haven’t had one on one with the players to know but I would be extremely surprised if they thought he was the best option to manage. You certainly can’t determine their feelings based on public comments they may make.
