Nado was awful last year but he has no real trade value. Give him a chance at resurgence, he deserves that. If he does well and you're out of contention then you could always deal him at the trading deadline. No one can say that they couldn't compete for a playoff spot, but dealing your best players kind of makes the point moot.
We tried that already last year. Remember? He has been declining for a few years, we couldn't trade him, he didn't have any resurgence during the season he was even worse last year than the year before, and couldn't be dealt at the trade deadline.
And so then you dump him. But that still doesn't mitigate trading your best lefty reliever and arguably your best reliever out of the pen. But the object isn't to compete and win obviously or they would be adding to the team instead of decimating it.
The key is to trade these guys while they still have value. That’s what the cardinals have failed to do for years. Relievers fall off a cliff when used a lot, see Gaellegos for one recent example. Jojo will fall off a cliff too, it’s just a matter of when. The cardinals aren’t competing in 2026. Some folks here have to quit talking about the season as if they are. Since they are not, trade assets rather than let them shrivel up in STL.

He "deserves" it? Why does he deserve it? The only thing he's owed is money.

"Deserve's got nothin' to do with it."
That's a hall of fame player you're talking about, not some nitwit. Who's going to replace him that's as good as he is defensively? If anyone on this team deserves to have another shot, it's him.
Again, deserve's got nothing to do with it. He isn't living up to his contract and hasn't for 2 full seasons, and you want to give him another? And you're here every day saying you want the team to win?

He put up Ozzie Smith's career OPS, .666, in '25 and as good as his defense is, it ain't good enough to put up Ozzie numbers with the bat and stay on the field.

If he's HoF already he should just retire today and get there sooner.
Again, if you have a better alternative then let it be known. Is there a better defensive 3rd baseman on the roster? Put up or shut up.
It simply doesn't matter if there is or not - the team was bad with him, they can be bad without him and his price tag.
So you're saying that DeWitt's pockets are more important than putting the best player at a position in an effort to win? Are you hearing yourself?
No, the only person concerned with DeWitt's pockets is you, and that's because you think you're entitled to input on how he spends his money. I'm concerned with payroll only in that wasting it on player's like an age compromised Arenado hurts the team in more ways than on-field (lack of)production.
You should be concerned when he takes public tax payer money to fund his business. But dummies like you have to suck up to the rich man cause one day it might be you, right?

Again, the only person worried about Bill's finances is you. I don't care if he's got a dollar or a billion, doesn't change my life in the least. And I live in Illinois, none of my tax payer dollars went to the stadium or BPV. FWIW, I'm strongly against owners getting tax breaks for their stadiums, if they aren't saving money for upkeep/replacement of their base of operations, like other businesses are required to do, it's their problem. But I also won't be crying when the team moves because their demands aren't met.

I'm sure that teams are always looking for that bigger better deal and there's no shortage of cities and states willing to saddle tax payers with massive debt to lure them, but it's still a shame that history of the franchise and the following of millions of fans don't matter. You're right and I learned it long ago. It really doesn't matter to life, it's just entertainment for the masses. Something to alleviate their daiily problems and bring a sense of community to the fans. Will it change the day you die or provide you with support for family? No. It won't. But at the same time, using people against each other in bidding wars and extorting tax money away from schools and other infrastructure is an abomination. If we can't agree on that then there's no reason to converse further.

Define "competitive." How will JoJo help them get to the World Series in the next year or two?
Who are the pitchers that you honestly think they could acquire? Just name two. Or keep it as some pipe dream you have.

If you're one of those fans who like to win 85 games but have zero chance of going anywhere in the playoffs, more power to you.
I'd prefer them start a rebuild, the sole purpose of which is to win a World Series in 3-4 years.

Again, us google and see the list of free agents. I'm not doing you peoples research just for you to pooh pooh it off and call me stupid. Been there done that. As for chances in the playoffs, you have to get there first. Once there you might be the underdog, the Cards always have been, but as those championships can attest, anybody that gets into the playoffs has a punchers chance. The best team in baseball can lose a series. Abundant losing only guarantees losing. Draft picks are no guarantee. Playing in the minors and developing is no guarantee. There are a lot of moving parts and failure can and does happen at any point. It's obvious you and people like you believe in the tanking strategy and occasionally it has worked but more often than not it fails and the suffering in between is hideous. If during your proposal, everything goes right and you manage to build some mythical juggernaut, then you not only are on the clock to win big before the next tear down but you're still at the mercy of injuries, poor play and hot teams. For hopefully the last time, LOL, you have to be in it to win it. All the years wasted on building some dynasty dream could have been playoff years and championships. Chicago tanked and won a championship (barely) and the talk of "dynasty" was rampant. How many more championships have they won? All those players are mostly gone from Chicago. Same can be said for every tanking team. What really separates the winners and losers in MLB is the willingness of the winners to step up with money. The losers are nothing more than farm teams for the winners.
