We tried that already last year. Remember? He has been declining for a few years, we couldn't trade him, he didn't have any resurgence during the season he was even worse last year than the year before, and couldn't be dealt at the trade deadline.CCard wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 06:04 am Because he's your best lefty reliever. Might as well keep adding former Cardinals RP's and add JoJo too.

I’m kind of indifferent on trading arenado if they had someone good or even decent to replace him I would say have to trade him but all it does is give Gorman another year to suck and he sucks at hitting and fielding at least arenado is good at fieldingRonnie Dobbs wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 08:23 amWe tried that already last year. Understood. To me, though, my priority is getting Gorman ABs now matter how bad he sucks. You gotta know if he’ll ever be anything and I don’t want to be playing the game of benching him or moving him between 2B and 3B because you have Arenado in the lineup and can’t sit him.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 14:12 pm I’m kind of indifferent on trading arenado if they had someone good or even decent to replace him I would say have to trade him but all it does is give Gorman another year to suck and he sucks at hitting and fielding at least arenado is good at fielding

If they haven’t figured out by now he won’t be anything they are too slow to ever figure it out they will just keep running him out there year after year to continue to suckRonnie Dobbs wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 15:48 pmUnderstood. And so then you dump him. But that still doesn't mitigate trading your best lefty reliever and arguably your best reliever out of the pen. But the object isn't to compete and win obviously or they would be adding to the team instead of decimating it.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 08:23 amWe tried that already last year. Remember? Perhaps not. But they made the WC in 2024 and had the best record in baseball in 2023. Far cry from the Card's performance those years.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑20 Dec 2025 04:11 amIt still won’t get them past the Yankees or Blue Jays. Or probably even the Red Sox. I'll take one of these, please:
Juaron Watts‑Brown (RHP, Double‑A/Triple‑A track)
Acquired from Toronto for Domínguez; power slider/whiff profile; age 23.
Projects as a rotation‑capable arm with swing‑and‑miss stuff; aligns with Cards’ need for controllable pitching depth.
Acquisition note: Came as a single‑prospect return in a high‑leverage RP deal; Orioles valued him as a top‑10 org prospect post‑trade. [si.com],
Boston Bateman (LHP, Padres deal)
Part of the Padres package for Laureano/O’Hearn; top‑10 org prospect.
Lefty starter profile with upside; complements a system light on high‑ceiling left‑handed starting prospects.
Acquisition note: Headliner among multiple prospects O’s received at the deadline. Also has a dope name
They had a major step back in 2025 yes, but their young core is still intact but not getting younger (and soon to be more expensive). Their window is now. Maybe it's already halfway shut, but they have to go for it now. Hitting reset after one blip season would be silly.
Last offseason, their fatal flaw was patchworking their rotation. So far, they've done better but probably still another move arm away from contending in that division.
Toronto was a millimeter away from a WS win this year, and they came in last in 2024.

Re: Orioles interested in JoJo
Baltimore's 2025 seems akin to our 2023. We lost Pujols and Yadi, replaced them with Willson and yet every returning player got simultaneously worse. We had a team that was 90% of the way there - if we had a better manager, and BDW just made one or two more correct trades to finish the job, maybe that team goes a LOT further in 22. I blame Oli most of all for losing game 1, and then it was over in a short series.WaltsSuccessor wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 12:31 pmPerhaps not. But then in 2023, Mo refuses to fire Oli, he comes out and throws TO under the bus on April 6, kills morale, and the season never recovers.
The O's fired their manager. We refused to fire Oli after either the 2022 playoffs OR the 2023 debacle and instead gave him an extension. Missed opportunities all around in the Cards organization, and it starts at the top of on field operations.

That's a hall of fame player you're talking about, not some nitwit. Who's going to replace him that's as good as he is defensively? He put up Ozzie Smith's career OPS, .666, in '25 and as good as his defense is, it ain't good enough to put up Ozzie numbers with the bat and stay on the field.
If he's HoF already he should just retire today and get there sooner.

No, the only person concerned with DeWitt's pockets is you, and that's because you think you're entitled to input on how he spends his money. I'm concerned with payroll only in that wasting it on player's like an age compromised Arenado hurts the team in more ways than on-field (lack of)production.CCard wrote: ↑23 Dec 2025 16:21 pmSo you're saying that DeWitt's pockets are more important than putting the best player at a position in an effort to win?
