So if teams are hesitant, it's probably not that they don't want him—it's that the risk-reward equation (especially at that cap hit) makes them cautious. Teams want cost certainty, and if they’re unsure he’s a true driver on a contending team, they’re not going to give up high-end assets.
Lou is no longer in charge of the Islanders (as of this offseason). Mathieu Darche is the GM now. Lou's contract was not renewed.
my bad you are right...dang I missed that one....you know maybe Lou might have made that trade

He apparently included Dobson in an offer for Marner at the trade deadline, whereas Darche seems to be thinking more in terms of a rebuild. Might be why Lou is out.

Friedman apparently said it on the radio. I don't believe it would be 1 for 1. Sabres would probably have to add 9th overall pick and Jack Quinn or something else. Maybe Blues can offload Leddy too...
That isn't even clear with snytax what the hell he's saying. What a pointless garble. Who is "they"? who wants the defenseman from whom?
I agree with you. The way EF wrote it it sounds like it would be Kyrou+ for Byram and that is laughable.
Kyrou+Krug
Not sure how that’s a good deal. Byram is one hit away from being Krug at a higher AAV probably. I don’t see what the interest in Byram is. It would be like kicking the tires on Adin Hill, why? The position is already filled.
Joking.

My bad. I thought you meant clearing cap space before the LTIR can kick in.

We're loaded at LD so let's get an LD who's one hit from done and also kind of not that special and let's use our biggest trade chip to do it? That's insane. What a terrible idea if it is truly under consideration.
My thought exactly - Byrum looks like Mr Glass, no point in signing that dude long term and potentially handicap the teams spending.

I have to believe that some of this is warped remnants of a larger-discussed framework that became moot when Peterka went to Utah ... ?

Maybe if it were Kyrou, Krug, Leddy, and Faulk for Byram, Samuelsson, Kulich, and their #9OA - or something kind of like that- and then we actually used the space for Marner, and Byram was a cheap signing like $4-5M.

So yeah......just kidding
