If he has trouble on homers, then that would also indicate good control. If he can diminish the home runs, he might be a reasonable starter. An Old Friend wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 07:25 amI’d be pretty confident that it’s Oviedo. OR, he might give up a lot of homeruns.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 07:31 amIf he has trouble on homers, then that would also indicate good control. He needs to miss more bats and become less vulnerable in the zone. So he needs meaningful and incremental improvements to his overall stuff.
If a guy has HR issues in the minors, I think it’s rather atypical that they don’t follow him to the majors.

I hear ya. More likely. If he can miss more bats, is his control good enough at this level to help him become a starter. An Old Friend wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 07:49 amOR, he might give up a lot of homeruns.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 07:31 amIf he has trouble on homers, then that would also indicate good control. I mean… he’s certainly a starter on this team but maybe not by the time they’re actually contending.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 07:52 amI hear ya. More likely. Fitts is going to give them innings and probably be decent, but I think it’s a low ceiling. Clarke is the ceiling guy in that deal. I view Fitts as a bridge arm.

If you are the Red Sox and looking at 2026, you probably prefer to have Oviedo. If you are the Cardinals and looking further down the line, you probably prefer to have Fitts.
