Re: Would you do this Trade for Sandy Alcantara

I'd be excited to have Sandy.
I'd hate to lose Donovan.
Could care less about Walker.

Donovan + Crooks is lighter than Donovan + Walker.Bully4you wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:31 amSo, you think my offer is lite.3dender wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:29 am Alcantara doesn't really align with when this team may be good again, unless they extend him through like 2030 (which I wouldn't be opposed to).
I'd do one of Donovan/Noot/Burly for him, plus maybe a Crooks-level prospect. That would serve to clear logjams on the position player side as well as address a need.
I don't expect Miami would let him go for that little though.
Rbi thinks it's way too much.
Who knows?
RBI's talking about from the Cards perspective, I'm talking about from Miami's perspective.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:33 amRBI thinks Donovan is too rich alone. I think. You add a prospect and say it’s still too low.3dender wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:29 am Alcantara doesn't really align with when this team may be good again, unless they extend him through like 2030 (which I wouldn't be opposed to).

I’m muffed.
Not sure he was available to get at the deadline.rbirules wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:32 amYes, he is, and his results aren't good. His fWAR (based on FIP) is still below average.
Sandy has upside potential and that's what you're betting on acquiring him. Donovan is too much of a sure thing for me to give up on a speculative move like this, especially when there will be opportunities for speculative moves in FA.
Shouldn't there have been plenty of suitors at the deadline also?
Again, I like the player as a target (mentioned him specifically in a post a month or so ago as targets I liked), but this price is too high for me. If other teams are willing to pay that price that's their prerogative.
Oh I see.3dender wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:38 amDonovan + Crooks is lighter than Donovan + Walker.Bully4you wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:31 amSo, you think my offer is lite.3dender wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:29 am Alcantara doesn't really align with when this team may be good again, unless they extend him through like 2030 (which I wouldn't be opposed to).

I think Donovan has more value (production vs. contract status) than Alcantara currently. He's certainly going to cost less than $38.3M the next two seasons, he might not cost even half that much, and I think his production (read: fWAR) has a high chance to be on par with Alcantara's if not better. Yes, there is a slight change Sandy bounces back to CY form next year and vastly outproduces Donovan over the next two seasons, again, at a higher cost. You could also just look to sign a FA SP for two years at $19-20M AAV.Bully4you wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:33 amI think he would rather have Donovan than Alcantara.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:30 amI see. I guess that is what he was saying.
We have an up and comer at 2nd base.
We need pitching.
No, you’re sick and tired of MO’s prospect return. We all are.
I'd give him up for a starting pitcher without blinking.rbirules wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:29 amI would not give up Donovan for Sandy, Donovan is more valuable.
You're not getting Gilbert or Kirby or Woo for Hurdy Gurdyrbirules wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:44 amI think Donovan has more value (production vs. contract status) than Alcantara currently. That being said, I'm not opposed to moving Donovan given our depth (namely JJ) but I just wouldn't do it in this deal. Not sure what their needs are now but I would consider moving Donovan for one of Seattle's top four SPs. However, given how unlikely it seems that ownership will spend big money this off-season I'd rather flip Donovan for prospects until ownership is ready to spend as Alcantara or Gilbert or Kirby or Woo, etc. alone isn't going to turn this team into a contender.
For a starter w more team control? Definitelyscoutyjones2 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:59 amI'd give him up for a starting pitcher without blinking.rbirules wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:29 amI would not give up Donovan for Sandy, Donovan is more valuable.
So would I, just not this particular one.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:59 amI'd give him up for a starting pitcher without blinking.rbirules wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 08:29 amI would not give up Donovan for Sandy, Donovan is more valuable.
