Re: First woman umpire debuts

the one highlight showed by espn during the cards game was new ump calling a strike 3 on a pitch way, way inside. Then espn sugar coated by summarizing the games performance as a pitchers umpire, which likely means strikes called on pitches out of the zone . stats posted here seem to back up lower level performance . Ump needs to do significantly better. Sex irrelevant. It is what it is.

She’s there to be an analyst…..her experience is telling how she did things playing SOFTBALL…..Not the same sport
No experience on the baseball diamond and certainly not close to anything MLB
But hey…..Breaking down those walls…… ::crazya:: ::crazya::
They had better fire the male analysts who never played MLB baseball also then
David Cone??

Bravo.
Okay, thanks for sharing.
But why bravo? Just curious.
Because it is long past due, that’s why.
Because the sexist walls continue to crumble. And that’s something to celebrate.
Why is it long overdue?

why is any specific gender, in any arena of business, supposed to be guaranteed a job in that arena?

I don't care personally, doesn't effect me in anyway shape or form, but what difference does it make?
who said anything about a guarantee ?
By stating that it is long overdue, it is essentially stating that there needs to be a woman umpire.

Use whatever definition you want
So what you’re saying is though baseball has been around for 150+ years, it’s simply a coincidental statistical anomaly that there has never been a woman umpire?

Cool.
Nothing coincidental about it. It is a man's sport. That doesn't mean that's wrong. Simply fact.
explain gino auriemma for me then? this has been a great and enlightening discussion and i like all opinions including this one.

If she is a good fair ump then that's all that matters.
Leftists are obsessed with race and gender

Any space that is all men = evil in their minds. And so it must be invaded by women in order to be pure.

It's a very F'd up mental disease they have
isn't this a 'she is qualified' or 'she isn't qualified' issue? i don't see how you are able to make this fit into your political bubble -- this is baseball. the best statement in this whole thread was if we don't hear complaints or people talking about her (except for the obvious of being the first) then she is doing a good job!

Missing the first pitch by 8 inches

She ranked 13th out of 15 HP umpires in her first game and was below league average. Pathetic.

Let's celebrate all the progress that was made
don't you think she has the right to learn and get better?? if she doesn't then figure something else out --- i'd rather have an ump trying hard and not making themself the center of the game when behind the plate ... looking at you angel hernandez.... how the hell is he still in the league?

And I’m sure Pete the bambino gammons was launching them
Into the upper deck I think he had a couple of 40-40 seasons before he got off the steroids

Review what a Play-by-play, analyst, and sideline reporter are……
Example for you
PBP-Danny Mac
Analyst- Al Hrabosky
Sideline reporter- Jimmy the Cat
The reporter isn’t in the booth……the ESPN gal was an “Analyst” along with Arod.

What is there to explain? There have been more men coaches than women. Just a historical fact. Not right or wrong, just the way it's been.

I default to a baseline of expected hardcore baseball knowledge when communicating with CTers…..assuming they would be hardcore to log in here
That apparently is a mistake……
Some of these posters make me wonder if they even watch MLB…..
