This weekend in Braves series.
Bravo.
Okay, thanks for sharing.
But why bravo? Just curious.
Because it is long past due, that’s why.
Because the sexist walls continue to crumble. And that’s something to celebrate.
LMAO! Liberal much Dude?
You couldn’t tell???
Remember An Ump is an Ump….no difference….nothing to see here
BUT lets rant on about equality…..sexism…..
Back in the day Men on a baseball field mixed it up pretty good with each other and the umpire crew. I don’t think anyone would want a LADY involved in the Language, Nastiness, Tone, or sometimes physicality the umpires had to deal with. Perhaps thats mostly gone now but certainly a Lady isn’t going to treated as the same a man if things get heated. Yes EQUALITY……

A female debuts just in time for robot umps to take over.
I’m not in favor of robot umps, but they are on the way. I think by and large the umpires do a good job. Sure, i get frustrated by some of the ball and strike calls, but some of the Cardinals batsmen frustrate me more than the umpires.
I disagree. Hate to have a game decided by an ump's egregiously bad call. And it happens all the time. There's no doubt a robot ump would do better. The have them in tennis, why not in baseball.

Unfortunately one bad call wrecks the count and skews the at bat. That’s one time in four at bats. Night after night. Now if it happens more often, then the mental makeup of an offensive player may be scrambled.

Why is it long overdue?
why is any specific gender, in any arena of business, supposed to be guaranteed a job in that arena?
I don't care personally, doesn't effect me in anyway shape or form, but what difference does it make?
It all about destroying the Patriarchy and really nothing to do with Equality. They feel there’s no difference in the sexes and that Males(mostly white)have been scourge of humanity since the beginning of time…these are the same crew that cheer on pregnant women in combat.
YAY equality…..er equity for all…..Every woman should have the same opportunity as a man to get a limb blown off in some chithole overseas….

who said anything about a guarantee ?
By stating that it is long overdue, it is essentially stating that there needs to be a woman umpire.
Use whatever definition you want
So what you’re saying is though baseball has been around for 150+ years, it’s simply a coincidental statistical anomaly that there has never been a woman umpire?

Cool.
Nothing coincidental about it. It is a man's sport. That doesn't mean that's wrong. Simply fact.

So women weren’t allowed to for years, is what you’re saying?

No. Just saying that men play baseball. It's been a male sport. Softball has been a female sport. Nothing wrong with that. Just the facts.

Oh sure, things will be fine at first. But when a pitcher doesn't get a call on the outside corner he'll ask the ump "what's wrong with that?" The male up will say "it was off the plate" or "it was low." The female up will say "nothing. it was fine." And the poor sap will never get another call all night.
Or if she has a dream the night before about the outcome of tonight’s game
