Re: Attendance
Looking forward to watching the game on TV tonight. I don't care if there are 5,000 fans there. It's entertainment.
Re: Attendance
The Blues are taking a lot of attention away from the Cardinals too. Frankly, that's a good thing for the Cards. I think once they find out what type of team they are, they'll be getting butts in seats again.
Re: Attendance
I'm guessing that people went opening day...booed DeTwit and Mo-ran and now will stay home...a much more effective response.
Re: Attendance
Even 2024 had decent baseball. Sure there was decreased or poor production but, the baseball
was decent with memorable plays.
IMO, there is a little good old fashion St. Louis ornery that is in play.
Once jilted it takes a while to settle.
I remember my mom getting upset about $0.50
on milk. She drove 5 extra miles for 6 months.
Not saying everyone, just some.
Re: Attendance
Amazing how many posters complain about the Cardinals in general terms - ownership, front office, field management, the quality of the product on the field, etc. - without coming up with a game plan to compete with teams that have significantly greater resources.

When you start paying us, we will provide you with a game plan.

Always a double standard for Cranny. But I should be careful before he reports my comments.WLTFE wrote: ↑01 Apr 2025 12:16 pmSo were you...so your quoting my post?Cranny wrote: ↑01 Apr 2025 12:10 pmYou were also warned not to comment about that poster, comment about his posts, or attack that poster.

Re: Attendance
Come on -- we've been through this a hundred times. People provide you with a game plan, and 90% of the time you ignore it, and the other 10% you agree with it. And we've had the "why have they underperformed" conversation a hundred times. You just don't want to see the common denominator to that conversation -- the guy who built the roster, the guy for whom we sacrificed this season so he could have a "farewell tour."

Red - There is no double standard. In 18 years on here, I've only been warned once by a moderator. I had a poster that followed me around for a year, blasting me personally with foul language at every turn. I asked him repeatedly to stop it and he got even worse. I finally asked the moderators to step in. They asked both of us to put the other on ignore
and not respond to the other person. I've done that and will continue to do that going forward. Their comment to me was "don't feed the troll". I got off track for a second on this thread, but will get back on track. It was my bad.

Re: Attendance
I'm part of a small group that buy season tickets in Section 148 and go to about 20-25 games...went to Saturday's game and the general concerns were the lack of a clear idea if what the team is trying to do but save money...DeTwit and Mo-ran are not popular with most people in this section.

Re: Attendance
I think they made it clear that they plan to get back to being excellent at player development after admitting that this had deteriorated recently. Every offseason move pretty much aligned with that.
They are spending ~$100M this year on Roger Dean stadium upgrades which is where a lot of player development happens. Because of this they are not spending on MLB free agents in 2025.
They also made it clear that they plan to try to compete this season (and every season) and do not plan to tank & rebuild. They said tanking is not a Cardinal thing to do. Weird that the media expected them to tank when they said they would not.
They did try to trade Arenado (to save more money) which they thought they could do without hurting 2025-27 too badly since they have Donovan and Duncan and Saggese to replace him and soon Wetherholt. They don't have obvious replacements for Gray or Contreras. They would not have gotten serious prospects for Arenado so this trade was not part of a rebuild, it would have been a money saver.
They could have traded Mikolas/Matz but they didn't feel like they had a lot of pitching depth (and they don't). These trades again would have been to save money and not prospects so the trades would not have been part of a rebuild either.
