I haven't seen him pitch in the minors but I think we'll give the young guy plenty of rope. Libertore on the other hand is very disappointing at this point. He should be the ace of the staff and dominating teams but he just doesn't have that something special. Maybe a new pitch? Maybe less pitches? Bob Gibson basically was a two pitch pitcher if I recollect. But his fastball would move in, out, up and down. And his slider kept the batters off of his fastball. Steve Carlton destroyed teams with his slider. Maybe Libertore should simplify? Just throwing it against the wall to see if it sticks.

I am a little worried that Doyle "tough guy" shtick of cussing at batters and strutting around like a pro wrestler is going to wear out its welcome pretty fast. Especially if he comes up and get's knocked around. He has the tools, I just hope he doesn't get thrown onto the "head case" pile.

But a lot of good pitchers were head cases, like Chris Sale, Zach Greinke etc.

I don't see a comparison to Liberatore though.

I don't disagree about concerns with his strutting off the mound from college days, but in the few highlights I have watched this year I have not seen any of that in AA.

Can anybody share whether he has toned down his celebrations, or is he still strutting?

agree Ozzie and I sure hope not.

Yea they basically skipped doyle straight to AA on top of him overhauling his secondary pitches which he’s still learning to master which is the reason for his control they also have him throwing those a lot to develop them. He said he started out with a fastball cutter and splitter they have added a curveball and sweeper. So people that think he’s a bust need to understand he went from college to AA if they had started him at A ball this season he would have dominated and people would be drooling over what he’s doing instead of saying he’s a bust. But he started out at AA and is learning two new pitches anyone thinking he was going to start out dominating under those circumstances were pipe dreaming. This season isn’t about results it’s about the process of learning those new pitches

Yeah I mean he was almost exclusively pitching heaters in college I’m not surprised this year is more of a “learning” year for him in a lot of ways.

Kind of like a year long spring training for him. Just work on your stuff and don’t worry as much about getting rocked.

I don't think Doyle is the next Libertore but I do wonder if his future might be a a dominate closer somewhat like Billy Wagner.
I know I am in the minority but I still am not ready to give up on Libby. I do think he may be better suited as a 2 or 3 inning reliever.
