I hope that makes sense.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 19:55 pmI think they have to add him to the roster so someone will have to depart the 40 man my guess is a trade maybe?Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 19:51 pmI don’t know the answer, but I’m going with Gastelum.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 19:46 pmYes he will start Saturday they haven’t said the move to make room for him yetCardinals1964 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 19:24 pmThey already announced he will start Saturday. Could they send Gastelum down even though he is on the 40 man roster and not be subjected to a waiver pick up?
That would mean anybody on the 40 man roster could be cut. I’d maybe think about cutting Nolan Gorman off the forty man roster.
Who would want him on their major league squad, the rest of the season? I’m just throwing things out there.

Agree with that I just don’t know how bloom operates yet I don’t know if he waits until the day of the deadline to make moves or moves early before the deadline that’s why I threw out they may dump strzelecki because if Matthew’s starts Saturday a trade or move will have to happen before thenWattage wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 20:15 pmif we trade guys like noot and may, unless the players we trade for have to be on 40 man, that already opens spotsOzziesfan41 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 20:14 pmYea they can send gastelum down but that woudlnt open a spot on the 40 man i think may or someone is traded or they could dump strzelecki off the 40 man they’ve done that with a couple of pitchers like him alreadyCardinals1964 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 20:02 pmOh. Re: Quinn Mathews getting the call?
I hope Mathews doesn’t end up throwing too many innings and breaking down again this year. He was abused at Stanford in both total innings and pitches per game in 2023. In hindsight the Cardinals should have had him on an innings limit of about 100 total IP in 2024 rather than rushing him from A ball all the to way to AAA and a little over 140 IP, which ended with a shoulder injury. After 99 innings and terrible stats in 2025, he’s currently at 92 IP this year, with good stats since June. I know he’s about to turn 26 years old, and at some point the gloves have to come off, but I’d prefer he doesn’t get past 125 IP this season. That would put him on track for 150 IP next season, when the Cardinals will need him in the MLB rotation.

quinn matthews has tp be added to 40 man roster this offseason anyway so adding him now wouldnt really mess up anything 40 man wise from adding too early.
Someone has to moved off the 40 man roster . Roster is full

I get your concern zoiks, but come on bro. He isn't a baby. 125 innings? Can we please get back to letting GROWN MEN PITCH THE FREAKING BALL? Too much babying going on. That's half the reason guys get hurt so much anymore!zoiks wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 21:33 pm I hope Mathews doesn’t end up throwing too many innings and breaking down again this year. Ok, sorry. Rant over.
I hope he is good for us, Zoiks!

- Libby will be put into the bullpen after Jo Jo, Stanek and O'Brien are also traded.
- Mathews will get called up and start
- Dobbins will start
Avert your eyes from the bullpen for the rest of 2026
Pages and Stanek will get traded for high octane bullpen arms with current control issues. But setting up for the 2027 bullpen.
At least one, maybe 2 other bigger deals will be made for the Cardinals. 3B, OF, Starting pitcher prospects heading this way if both are made.
Don't get too attached to Herrera. Embrace Crooks and Bernal as your catchers...
... or nothing will happen and we wait til off season and a CBA to trade.
Stay tuned

Re: Quinn Mathews getting the call?
Yea, I've read the books like at least 4 times now. They are so great, but I think I'm torturing myself, because I don't they'll ever be finished. Well, unless after GRRM dies and his estate allows someone to do it for him, but he seems to be pretty against that. Agree about the TV show. I wish some of the earlier seasons would have had the budget of the later seasons and House of the Dragon, but it was still awesome seeing it on TV after loving the books.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 15:57 pmlol awesome reference loved the books and the first part of the tv series but once they ran out of books for material it went down hill quickly and ended terribly

Of course it will, but since they don't know how the new CBA will affect service time, don't they have to look to the current one?

Re: Quinn Mathews getting the call?
this should be the case for most of the guys w/out expiring contracts on the roster... Bloom doesn't have to do anything this year which i think will help with the returns if he does pull the trigger.11WSChamps wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 16:38 pmBecause of the team control factor and because I believe Leahy has a higher ceiling I'm hoping they refrain from moving him unless of course they are overwhelmed with an offer.Futuregm2 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 16:35 pmYea, him and Leahy both could. No idea what to make of them or where they fit into the plan. Pallante’s past seems to be good every other year.11WSChamps wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 16:31 pmMy guess Pallante will draw some interest.
Fior a team that can score runs he makes a very competitive number three starter.
2026: 3.72 ERA
2025: 5.31 ERA
2024: 3.78 ERA
2023: 4.76 ERA
2022: 3.17 ERA

Maybe if he's any good they extend him like JJW and service time becomes irrelevant.rockondlouie wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026 11:14 amPerhaps he does go back down to avoid that 50 IP/45 days?ClassicO wrote: ↑31 Jul 2026 11:05 amOf course it will, but since they don't know how the new CBA will affect service time, don't they have to look to the current one?

Re: Quinn Mathews getting the call?
But but but...
Melville told us Mathews should be traded (along with Bernal) - back last offseason when both had far less trade value!!
Even if they were players Chaim would trade, last off-season was the WRONG time, as both have significantly increased their values this season.
And he wonders why he was the "only person" advocating this nonsense. Ha ha ha.
Oh yeah - he also said the Donovan trade was a "steal for Seattle" and that "the odds of it turning out well are extremely slim."
"by Melville » 14 Nov 2025 19:32 pm
I am the only person to date who has correctly advised trading Mathews.
Been saying that for 3 months now.
Zero question that, at the minor league level, Bernal and Mathews are the two pieces Bloom should trade this off-season (along with those at the MLB level I have previously identified).
Easy.
Obvious.
Correct."
