The guy making $35 mil a year with an OPS+ of 100?
Look at his career stats and sneer. Where would he be on the depth chart for the Cards?
You're right. Pay no attention to the stats in front of you. Instead justify your answer by looking at past performance.

32 year old with league average OPS+, making $175 over the next 5 years

Keep believing in his career numbers, and ignoring his injury history
You don't know how he'll turn out. He may well slow down some, but at least the Cubs are trying. Enjoy Blaze Jordan and his 1 homerun.
So spend stupidly but at least you’re trying lol spend 175 million on a .713 ops hitter but at least you’re trying lol thank god you aren’t running the team the team would be screwed for years

Of the 10 hits in the series, if I counted correctly 9 were hit the other way. Many of the Cub's hits were to the opposite field something JJ needs to do, again if I counted only one of his hits went the other way. He just continues to ground out to second or sometimes first.

You aren't wrong. And if we ever had a hitter go 9-17 in a series, im confident the opposing manager would be smart enough to walk him in a key extra inning spot. Our dugout dumb[ash] doesn't get it. OLI BALL
Yes, plus it sets up the DP. Whatever...

Give me a break. If Bregman had THOSE numbers and THAT contract and was wearing a Cardinal uniform, he'd be far and away the daily forum whipping boy.

Daily posts titled, 'We have how many more years or this bum?' or 'Bloom is just as bad at spending DeWallet's money as Mo!' or 'Why doesn't Oli bench this stiff and play Blaze Jordan!

You know it l's true.

This thread is a bit unhinged.

Signing FAs to bad contracts is NOT how you compete. 8O

Why do you start dumb threads. And this one is really dumb.

Is Bregman a superstar worth 5/$175 or $35m per year in his ages 32-36? No. Not a great bargain. Betting he isn't close to the star he was aged 28-31. Putting aside that he isn't a great use of money......

STL is in a rebuild. You don't throw money at aging stars on their down slope during a rebuild. And the rebuild is going quite well but seems you are missing or dissing it. When the new Owner/Player contract is signed next year and STL has figured out who is real (and I think they are close) then they can spend money on some veteran talent to make a run. Might still be a year early and might want to stay the course on getting talent at a batter cost basis than Bregman.

Based on current obligations they have a lot of room to spend. Hopefully money better spent than what the Cubs are getting from Bregman.

I don’t mind a rookie making the minimum and sucking at hitting I wouldn’t like a veteran making 35 million sucking at hitting. I guess you think it’s better if a guy sucks as long as they pay him a lot of money?when your money is tied up in bad contracts like that it makes improving the team hard You must have loved Fowlers contract

You are sooooo dumb! St Louis is in a rebuild blah blah blah blah. Not beating this dead horse with you. You obviously feel it's okay for the team to tank so go buy some overpriced merch and beers while ownership sits back and puffs on a big ole stogie and laughs their collective a$$e$ off at you. Enjoy.

He beat the Cards today. At least the Cubs are trying. The Cards stuck a guy that has 1 homerun at 3rd. Why? Because he's cheap.
