Oli being Oli
Pinch run for Herrera in a 2-2 game in the bottom of the 8th with a guy that is not quite as slow in Velasquez. Velasquez is also the RH bat on your bench who supplies thump vs LHP.
Don't score and then your forced to remove Velasquez for a no hit defensive catcher in Pages.
Fast forward to bottom of the 10th down 4-2. One out and Walker on 2nd, you now have to pinch hit Crooks a LH batter for Pages. Cubs counter with a relief pitcher, Crooks flies out. They get Noot for out 3.
Velasquez is on this roster for one reason, to hit! Not to pinch run.
Oli makes impulsive moves in the moment without considering downstream consequences.
He's terrible

Well, cub pitcher was a right hander. But Oli is a freaking dweeb. No brain for the games.

I stand corrected. Premise remains. Removing Herrera for a pinch runner with similar running ability was dumbesp31 wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 18:10 pmThe pitcher was righthanded.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 18:08 pm Pinch run for Herrera in a 2-2 game in the bottom of the 8th with a guy that is not quite as slow in Velasquez. That is ok, no need to apologize. I was really surprised to see a righty coming in. Oli pinch running for Herrera is pathetic but for some reason he only knows pinch run, the upgrade in speed being minimal and the later loss of one of his big threats don't seem to occur to him. He has such paint by numbers rote moves already prepared. He likes to inject himself into the action whether it is positive or not. He is not a good manager.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 18:19 pmMy bad. I changed my OP. But premise remainsMIDMOBIRDTWO wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 18:11 pm Well, cub pitcher was a right hander. And there was zero accountability for Noot forgetting how many outs there were out in RF. Run scored on his brain breakdown. Some managers would have removed him from the game. But maybe that just means he'll get traded. Holding out hope.

Maybe Noot was daydreaming about his new digs. He used to be fairly adequate fundamentally. Hope he gets his new home, the sooner the better.

Re: Oli being Oli
That's one way to look at it .. You didn't want to put a guy who ran better than Herrera to give you better odds of scoring on a base hit in bottom of 8th.. get the run IN and then you hold Cubs in top of the 9th and win the game. Oli is trying to win the game by giving himself the best odds of scoring right then in 8th rather than 'saving' a pinch hitter type guy for extra innniugs etc. He didn't score in the 8th but won't criticize him for trying to take the lead in last of the 8th and holding Cubs scoreless in 9th .Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 18:08 pm Pinch run for Herrera in a 2-2 game in the bottom of the 8th with a guy that is not quite as slow in Velasquez. Accountability? Oli doesn't hold his bros accountable! Only the guys not in the club are held accountable.

So you are saying that Velasquez is much faster around the bases than Herrera? Okayramfandan wrote: ↑30 Jul 2026 18:40 pmThat's one way to look at it .. Re: Oli being Oli
I’ve seen more mental errors in baseball over the years they are too many to count. I’ve seen players tossed the ball into the stands thinking there were three outs when they weren’t. It happens. That was in the fourth ending. The Cardinal should’ve scored some runs.
