That's a loser move.

HUGE PASS dealing Ivan :x
While I'm not a HUGE pass on dealing Ivan, as I would deal basically anyone if another team wanted to get stupid, I am also a pass on trading him. Unfortunately, I don't think it's likely that any team is going to get that stupid and make some outrageous offer for him. You have to at least listen, but, yea, you don't just look to trade a guy like Herrera for prospects.

I am of the opinion too many on here over value Ivan's bat. I like the guy but in my world MLB starters need to bring both aspects of the game to the park. If you're going to be a DH full time then you better be hitting .270+ and 30 HRs a season. Ivan has skills but not enough to hold onto because the rest of team stinks too. If he can bring in a quality player as a throw in with someone else then do it. This team is not getting a playoff spot anyway.

You overestimate the trash the Cardinals would have to put in the lineup in Herrera’s place. Our lineup is already bad once you get past the top half of the order. Subtracting one of the positive OPS+ hitters would make the lineup much worse. And the team does not need more prospects. It needs young const controlled MLB quality players like Herrera.

Herrera: .749 OPS 114 OPS+
Torres: .734 OPS 105 OPS+
Velazquez: .720 OPS 101 OPS+

And they have Bernal and Rodriguez that are knocking on the doorstep. If you could get a similar hitter that could play 3B or OF or a pitcher with #2 potential, then I think you do it. Especially if there are multiple players involved.

Agree 100%. His replacement is not in our system at the moment. But if he goes in a trade with someone like a May who is gone anyway to get back a like minded cost controlled MLB player that can fill his spot, then. You do it.

I trust Bloom based on his progress so far.
As for Herrera? Anyone can be moved if the deal is a good one.
He obviously has value as a bat and the fact he can Catch.
On the other hand... they have other Catchers in the system and filling the DH spot is easier than a position player.

On the whole I agree w/that ronnie sans JJW, JW and of course the top prospects.

But Herrera is right on the cusp of that list for me.

We saw just last night how that bat can impact a game, something this roster sorely lacks.

Sure Bloom should listen, but I hope he passes unless some POBO/GM offers him a stupid (#1 prospect) offer.

Bloom has built a minor league player development system from scratch with a lot of BDW's money. That system relies heavily on a steady flow of high ceiling prospects, especially pitching prospects. Bloom has told us on many occasions that this is the plan. I am just going to go ahead and believe him.

Bernal? AAA catcher would probably get called up if Herrera is traded. Rainiel Rodriguez might then get promoted to AAA. Rodriguez is hitting .321/.409/.577 since June 1st in AA.

Pretty good chance RR is in StL in 2028. He will spend 2027 in AAA most likely. Hopefully he is indeed the real deal as a hitter. If so, they will figure out what position he is best suited for. He could have huge value if he sticks at C, but if he really can hit he will be the DH or 1B or somewhere. Or he will stall at AAA, we shall see.

Yes I agree that is another reason why we should seriously look at letting Herrera go. Both those guys are hitting really well and I think are going to supplant crooks and pages at some point also. But I think we can all agree that Herrera is not the future catcher for the Cardinals. And as someone is already pointed out recently very eloquently that all three current catchers have some deficiency in their game whether it be offensive or defensive. I like Herrera, he is built for baseball, but he just doesn't have the numbers to support a full-time position. I get it on the Cardinals his 250 plus average and mid-range home runs are nice but when you look at other teams like even just the Cubs it just came to town. There are two or three more guys hitting the same amount with the same average or close and they will not be considered cornerstones of that team. So obviously Bloom should at least listen on any viable offers for a good return even if it's a prospect. Herrera is a DH at this point and any other guy can feel that role. Where there is good or as bad is to be determined but it can be filled.

Herrera is a TERRIBLE defensive catcher and there's no way his bat at its best will
cover his terrible defense, especially when the Cards have better "potential" options in the minors.
I could be wrong, but I think many on here and possibly the Cards themselves over value Herrera's bat.
If Herrera doesn't catch, where do the Cards play him? Not DH because he isn't a good base runner. Herrera just
doesn't fit Cards future plans unless they consider changing everything to fit him in.

We actually are right in the middle of the pack with .69 stolen bases per game. Actually better this year than last. Just not a whole lot of running any more. I’ll take IH bat any and every day and put up with .69 stolen bases per game
